Mike Leach has ZERO F's to give...

I actually like the guy. We won’t see coaches like him ever again with today’s toxic PC culture in college and pro sports. He obviously was doing this for fun. He’s a breath of fresh air to me since he truly doesn’t give two shyts what people say or write about him. Average coach though.

Ain't that the truth. Can't hurt the feelings of those "Fat little girlfriends".

Yeah I like Leach ok for what he is but as time goes on I can’t say much for his coaching or record really.

He's a very good coach that has always been the almost great coach.

If Tech gets years in a group of 5 like Patterson did with TCU, I think we see him much differently.

Tech dominated the Border Conference, lol. They have ONE conference title since joining a real conference. And that was shared with Houston in like 1975...they lost to Houston that year.

Since 1960, Tech as been ranked 10x. 5 of those were under Leach. The last time Tech finished ranked, guess who the coach was.

Wazzu won 9 games in 4 years before Leach arrived. They hadn't been to a bowl game in a decade. Leach took them to 6 in 7 years. Wazzu has had one 11 win season in their history I believe, and that was a Leach coached team.

Miss. State has one appearance in the SEC title game and that was in 98 under cheating ass Sherill.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to fault the guy for "never winning a conference title."

I like the pirate also, he's solid and has proven he belongs. Albeit, lockin Craig James son in a closet because the kid just couldn't cut it caused his demise in lubbock. The Pirate's a hard charger, gotta give him that. I like his attitude, it is as another poster mentioned, "refreshing." 😁

he loves stirring the pot. Talk a bunch of trash to another fan base and get them all riled up. he was like 2-8 against Texas in his Tech tenure. he would have been 1-9 except for that dropped interception by - The one who shall go nameless.

He was in a shed away from sunlight yes? Pretty sure he said he was concussed and Texh athletic training staff said otherwise. Spoiled brat cried to daddy. Daddy thought he was big shit. caused a stink. AD wanted to make an example. Leach probably told him to eff off. AD got hurt feelings. Fired the only coach worth a shit in their history (sorry Spike). CJK5H though his shot didn’t stink and people loved. Ran an absolute embarrassing run for Senate or rep (can’t even remember) and hasn’t been heard from since.

I may be wrong. If I am someone please set my story straight.

This. Can’t fault the guy for never winning a conference because look at the places he’s coached. He would absolutely kill it at a blue blood school.

Not calling Aggie a blue blood, but he would probably do much better there than Jimbo lol.

Pretty much it. One of my best friends of many years is a die-hard Tech fan and alum. HIs whole family went there (but one of his sons married a Horn), and he is just short of being a BMD, well connected. He was tight with Kent Hance in those days, and says that Hance told him that Leach's firing really did come down to this. As Hance puts it, "You just can't tell your boss to go F himself." They basically wanted Leach to issue some form of apology to the James gang, and he refused. I'm ambivalent about Leach in general, although it does seem that his act is growing tired, and his innovative offense has been copied enough that it isn't cutting edge as it once was.

I think he's the kind of dude that likes being at an underdog school. Don't know the motive, but some coaches just like being at a "smaller" school

Yeah Leach’s teams have put up points and he’s done a good job as the HC/OC. Would I want him as the HC at OU? Nope. As good as his teams are on offense, they’re equally as bad on defense. You’d think that trying to fix that would be a priority at some point in a long career?

I wouldn't want him at Texas either. That said however, Lubbock, Pullman and Starkville are certainly not destinations for top defensive recruits.

Patterson won multiple New Year 6 bowls. Leach has never coached in one.

If your goal is to be middle of the pack in your conference and never win anything of significance, Mike Leach is the coach for you.
His fool proof formula of obtaining 4 automatic wins by scheduling the weakest possible non-conference opponents and then trying to go .500 in conference play is the gold standard for how to be slightly above average.

when he was in the wac, or mountain west, or west coast conference or whatever. since he's been in the big 12 i don't think he's sniffed anything bigger than the alamo bowl. they were cheated out of the inaugural playoff though-- and no, ends don't justify the means; just because ohio state won doesn't mean it justifies cheating baylor and tcu

Like I said, slightly above average. In the 10 years he was at Tech, he finished .500 or below in Big 12 play 5 times. He's the master of going 9-5, with a 4-4 conference record.

You’re right. Patterson is 1-0 and Leach is 0-1.

TCU has a killer non conference since joining the Big 12 lol

Like I said. If Tech was in the WAC and MWC for several years with Leach, we see Leach much differently.

Of Leach and Patterson, one guy had 1 losing conference record in his time and the other had 6 losing conference records in his time.

Care to guess which is which?

Patterson is 2-1 and 11-6 in bowl games over all, Leach is 8-9. Paterson has 3 top 5 and 7 top 10 finishes. Leach has 1 top 10 finish and that was 10th.

1 of them won 11 games or more 3 times and the other only once.

1 of them coached in a Big 12 that was way more competitive from top to bottom.

What are you not getting about if you put Leach and Tech in a shitty conference for 12 years, Leach has similar success to Patterson?

Are you seriously saying the Big 12 the last 5-6-7 years was more competitive than when Texas and freaking Kansas were good? I mean seriously? The Big 12 from 2000-2009 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Big 12 from 2012 to now. It's not even close DJ.

I find it fascinating that you give Patterson credit for winning whilst playing in two separate spare conferences, but then also say his last 5-7 years were down because the Big 12 was more competitive. But yet don't give Leach the same point of view.

Leach is a very good, not great coach. And if he coached Tech in the WAC, he'd have all kinds of 10/11 win seasons.

One guy is an offensive guru, the other one is a defensive guru. There’s really not much difference between the 2. If you put Leach and those Tech teams he coached in the WAC and MWC they have similar results to TCU in that time period.

Is this a joke?

TCU went to back to back BCS bowls and finished #2 in the country as a member of the MWC. Gary Patterson won a Conference Championship, was on the door-step of the playoff and had 3 Top 10 finishes as a member of the Big 12.

Mike Leach has never come close to accomplishing any of that.

Gary Patterson has more Top 10 finishes than Mike Leach has seasons where his teams finished ranked.

Again. If you put Tech and Leach in the MWC, Leach would have many 10/11 win seasons.

Patterson had the benefit of coaching in the Big 12 while Texas was down and Tech didn't have Leach.

The Big 12 South and the Big 12 in general >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Big 12 when TCU arrived. This isn't even in question.

I'm not sure why this is so controversial DJ??? Please help me out here.

The Big 12 back in those years was a really good conference. It was a lot better top to bottom than when TCU joined in 2012. Leach never had a losing season while at Tech and never finished below .500 in conference.

What's that comments about ifs and buts. This isn't about 10 win seasons. This is about skins on the wall. One coach has a ton and the other has zero.

As far as the Big 12 being better in the 2000s, records indicate that Baylor, Kansas State, and Okie State have all been considerably better. WVU has been just as good as aggy.

I would say that Leach benefited more from not coaching against Patterson and Briles than the other way around.

Smh.

Okay man. Leach is ****ing dogshit and Patterson is Bear Bryant

The Big is now a better conference with Texas being mediocre. Good call.

I'm hoping I won't see you use a hypothetical at any point on this message board. If you do, I'm going to be all over that shit ;)

Kansas won more games in 2 seasons from the 07 and 08 seasons than they have this whole decade lol. Okie St. had a pretty good run from 08-12. West Virginia has 5 or more conference losses in 5 of their 10 seasons in the Big 12.
