Bruh.....B2

Unfortunately, @GuaranteedFresh! Says he never got to call in CAS or fire support from one. Oh wait..... maybe that was a BUFF. He never got to call in a BUFF.
I forget.

I heard a rumor that 3 of the B2s had been given "call signs" along with their "Spirit Number" (standard issue)-- sort of made up names to distinguish themselves.
They were "Death 1, Death 2, and Death 3".
Which seems kind of cornball-- until you realize that, ya...... that's what they do.

I heard a story from a SOF guy that told me they'd have Spectre gunship over watch during night ops that would be covering their ingress and egress on target and the joke was-- "if you're a bad guy, you can run, but you'll just die tired."

Ok.... that's an M-21. The D-21 was a drone carried by the M-21. The M-21 was the precursor to the SR71 and the successor to the YF-12.

There was the Air Force project called Arch Angel where they designed these super sonic spy planes. See, the U2 flew really far and high, but really slow. We THOUGHT it flew so high that no Soviet missile could reach it.

Wrong.

So the idea was, build something that could fly just as high, but so fast that even if the enemy knew it was coming, the missile couldn't get up to altitude fast enough to catch it. The jet would be going do fast that it would be well out of range by the time the missile got that high.

So project Arch Angel built like 18-20 different iterations of these super sonic jets- improving them every time. (Rumor is that even though the Air Force relies on satellites now, there was no need for super sonic craft so they stopped working on them....... but really DIDN'T)

Fun fact- we spent billions building the SR71 project to spy on Russia and not one single Blackbird ever flew over mainland Russia.

Wonder why?
