NCAA to explore instant eligibility for transfers

It will open the door to recruiting players from other teams (through back channels). The NCAA already has no control over anyone so why not do it.

so a guy could playfor team x on Thursday and switch to team y on Saturday?....what next?....draft choices?

If a scholarship is only a one year agreement between both parties, then why are there rules to prohibit a kid from moving on to another school without consequence? That doesn't make much sense.

If a scholarship was structured in such a way that it was a multi-year agreement and the kid wanted to leave while still under contract "control" then they would have a consequence.

All the NCAA's bullshit worked until TV/media deals started to garner this much money. The NCAA has exploited schools/players for a long as time and now they're having to deal with a revolution.

I for one will be very sad if Emmert loses his $3MM per year salary...

UT could do very well in this environment. We would first need to fire all the paper pushing buerocrats at Belmont hall and put that money toward players. What? UT won't do this? It's pretty much over then, at least the championships. See texas basketball...

I don't like this at all. It would give the SEC and the Big X an even bigger advantage over the rest of college fb. This is to much like free agency.

As I understand the proposal. You gain immediate eligibility but it’s a one time deal. If that’s the case it’s the right move.

bigger impact in basketball. to clarify, i believe this is a ONE TIME get out of jail free card. anyway, a lowly-recruited kid goes to austin peay and averages 23 a game as a soph... all of a sudden he's got options. and the coach that took a chance on the kid, that saw something nobody else did, gets left behind. this would be the mid-majors' version of 1 and done, i guess.

As I said above this would be a disaster for schools that are not in the SEC or the Big X. Look we all know that the SEC games the system not just in fb but in hoops and baseball as well we've discussed this on this board many times. Same goes for the Big X look at how they both did in the 4 major sports last year. See that they had at least 1 team in at least 3 of the sports.

Look if it's not about the money, it's about the money. Look at how much more tv money they get than the other 3 conferences it's downright embarrasing if you're one of the other 3. 2023 is shaping up to be the big year for contract renegotiating and the SEC and the Big X and are going to cash in big time. It could very well be the end for the other 3 conferences. The Pac XII commissioner negotiated a horrible contract that could very well destroy them and they're under contract until 2024 the year after the SEC and the Big X. It may be to late.

My point is that with their huge financial advantage and with the way they both game the system they will pull in transfers from elite schools. Case in point Justin Fields and Joe Brady. And we may be the Texas Longhorns but we've sucked in grad transfers. We've pulled in 3 players from mediocre teams who were average at best.

The college fb that I'v loved my whole life could be cornered by 2 conferences and a few schools as independents schools like ND, TX, OK, SC and maybe a couple more.

If you don't believe it check out 2 sites the Athletic and Pac XII newsletter. The latter is very good. Jon Wilner knows everything there is to know about the Pac XII and he doesn't mince words.

If it's not about the money it's about the money.

Seems like teams will not be able to develop anything beyond 2 deep, if even that. The chances of having a 1 and 1a qb on your roster probably diminish drastically. You'll have a good qb and a typical 3rd stringer backing him up
