For a special kind of masochist (like me).

Shaka -- who is 39-52 against high-major opponents and 26-35 against Big 12 opponents during his time at Texas -- goes for his eighth loss in eight miserable tries against the cheating bastards from Lawrence this evening in Austin.

So - is the plan to root for enough losses that AD has no choice? They are certainly headed that direction right now.

I know people have very strong feelings about this, but I think rooting against Texas is just fine when the current trajectory of a particular program is dire and a coaching change is unambiguously necessary for real improvement. At that point, performance that hastens the change is a long-term positive, and performance that supports the status quo is a long-term negative.

Charlie's loss to Kansas in 2016 was a godsend, for example. UT admins were looking for every excuse to keep him, and making a bowl game would likely have been enough. I was pissed that we had fallen low enough to lose that game, but I was also relieved that the loss removed all uncertainty around Charlie's job security. Anyone think we're Sugar Bowl champions with a top-10 finish this year if Charlie had gotten a fourth year?

I guess I'm not quite there yet for the basketball program -- I want Shaka out of here tomorrow, but I'm not actively pulling for losses. I can certainly see why some would be. Maybe I should be. Regardless, I don't think I can ever bring myself to pull for a loss against OU or KU in basketball.

Holy f*ck. Look at the Weltlich-era crowd in attendance for the player intros.

Texas has led by as many as 11, but the same incomprehensibly stupid turnovers this team commits every f*cking game are helping KU stay close.

And just like that, the lead is all but gone. Texas up 24-23.

Texas leads 26-23 at the half after an 11-3 KU run in the final six minutes. Texas made no FGs in the final 5:52.

Good thing we can now regroup with Shaka’s world-famous halftime adjustments!

Texas leads 42-33 with 11:00 to play. Bracing for the late-game roundhouse to the nuts that Shaka’s team usually gives its own fans.

Texas led 58-47 with 3:37 to play. KU then goes on a 5-0 run in 0:54.

Seen this sorry bullsh*t too many f*cking times.

After holding Kansas to 47 points through the first 56:28, Texas has given up 14 points in the last 2:36.

And Roach chucks it out of bounds with :55 to play. Senior leadership.

And Roach with a needless foul. More senior leadership.

Now 67-63 with :32 to play. Roach will shoot two.

Roach makes up for some really stupid play with four made FTs in the final minute. Two more from Hayes. Texas up 71-63 with :13 to play.

To be fair it was a 6:00 tip during the weekday facing rush hour traffic in Austin. It was a bear. I know. Took me an hour to get there. Lower level filled up later.

Wow.....when does Shaka sign that new contract extension!

That is called "sarcasm".....just in case...

All true, and this weekday time slot is always a damper on attendance for Texas, but I think the number of empty seats both then and later is still pretty damning. Shaka has really choked the enthusiasm out of this fan base.

Regardless, glad you got to enjoy one of the rare big wins in person.

I went to Texas/KU about 10 years ago in Austin. Getting a ticket was very tough. The Erwin Center was full to the rafters. Man how times have changed. Texas deserves better than Shaka Smart.

I see that were playing at ISU this Saturday. However, due to weather conditions in IA this game will probably be postponed and will have to be rescheduled.
