Some of you may remember from past posts, but my Dad has been going to the Texas/OU game since 1954 - only 2 years after Big Tex debuted! This year, he will be making his 63rd straight appearance at the biggest game in football! Sixty Freaking Three in a row! This game in this venue on this day is the greatest tradition our State has to offer, regardless of records. The tickets are in hand, the corny dogs are cooking, the weather forecast is clear - all we need is Malik Jefferson to plant Baker Mayfield at the 50 yard line to cap the perfect day. DON'T EVER LET THIS GAME MOVE FROM THE COTTON BOWL! Hook'em Horns!

back in 1966 we were driving up to the game. What happened in those days was you got under the overpass right where Kennedy was shot and you were finally home free . There was a huge party right there on main street or whatever they called it with the "Hot Nuts" playing to both fan groups.

The traffic was always completely standstill until you could finally get past that last traffic light. Cars in those days had generators instead of alternators so they didnt charge the battery unless moving. Also....most cars were no a/c.Drunks on every sidewalk. When we finally got up to the light with only one car in front of us here comes this drunk....staggering accross the road. He was right in fron of the car in front of us and he lost balance and put both hands on the guys hood.......Then the light turned green....The car in front of us floored it...right over the top of the guy.We stopped, jumped out ....and the guy stands up and just staggered away....true story

Growing up in the '70s. we used to stay up on Friday night of the game to watch the news - they always led with a reporter downtown on Main Street surrounded by drunks and reporting the total number of public intoxication arrests. Total chaos. Who knows - maybe that was Oldhorn!

Those were also rowdier times. In 1968, about 800 were arrested the night before the game, and there were also reports of furniture being thrown out of hotel windows in some years The good old days!

the epicenter of the whole weekend was the Adolphus Hotel. I have to tell you that from my observations you had to screw up damned bad to get arrested as the cops tried their best to not arrest anyone unless the dumbass damned near forced them to.....i.e.throwing up on the cop, passing out in the street(I watched cops walk right past guys passed out against a building) or throwing chairs out of windows.Surprisingly, in that big auditorium with the band blaring and UT and OU folks intermingling talking smack, I saw very few fights.

Anyone willing to give me tickets to the game? I have always seen the game from the outside and never inside. What are these prices looking like?

Sounds like a great day planned with your dad. I'm sure Malik may get after Mayfield a couple of times but be prepared to cover pops eyes unless you want him seeing Mayfield high steppin' while twerkin' into the endzone.

If you're willing to miss the opening kickoff you can always get tix for $20-30 right outside. Might not be amongst friendlies though. I've sat in the middle of evil red a couple times and had plenty of trash talk in good fun but never a fight.

A little Mayfield tidbit I work with a kid that lost his qb position to Mayfield in high school. I always give him hell telling him that I'm so glad he decided to step aside and take the road to obscurity and let Mayfield have all the fame and glory. Because I would sure as hell hate to be cheering him on instead. He takes it in good stride. He also says Mayfield is about the same now as he was in high school. Ha

about Mayfield....He was a walk on at Tech.....The guy has serious talent. How was he not offered out of HS?
