Absolutely no desire to start an argument here but will weigh in with a few points of observation (Caveated by the fact that I am one of the greatest sinners of all).
1) You are correct that Religion (and so many of us Christians) do poor job of explaining/reflecting Gods Character. Only the scriptures should be trusted and used to verify Truth. As Ronal Reagan said "trust but verify".
2) "No Physical evidence to support it" is a common rebuttal but candidly is not very valid. If truly interested I would point you to Evidence That Demands A Verdict by Josh McDowell. He set out to dispel Christianity and this is a culmination of his findings. I also like the schematic "Lord, Liar, Lunatic" which you can find on the internet by a simple google search. Very thought provoking.
3) Creation I believe does an excellent job validating the existence of a creator much bigger and complex than ourselves.
4) The real key is not to have all the right answers but rather to seek honestly by asking the right questions. The goal is the process by which we honestly seek truth.
5) In keeping this OB relevant I will reference the 40 Acres and The Tower on the main mall which states "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free".
Most people do not know that this is actually taken from the Bible- John 8:32
