These threads about who is going to be the next fb coach are silly and I'll prove it someone like me always takes part in it ![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
First of all if we win out the rest of the way there will be no coaching changes at Texas period.
At least not this year. I really like coach Strong and what he stands for but the man can not seem to hire a good coaching staff. Just when we finally have a qb and a promising oc, our defensive coaches are lousy. If coach Strong comes back it will only be his fourth year and he will have no members of his original coaching staff.
That being said my case for Brent Venables.
I'm going to use a little bit of RRR history here. The two men who made the TX/OK game the rivalry it is today were Bud Wilkinson and Darrell Royal. BW came in and beat TX 9 out of 10 and none of the games were even close. Well if you can't beat him, hire one of his players. Darrell Royal was an AA qb and safety for OK and played for Wilkinson. As a matter of fact Darrell Royal still holds the school record for most interceptions and it's been almost 70 years since his last game. So TX hires him and it was a case where the teacher taught the student to well. DKR comes in and beats OK 12 out of 13 times. What a kick in the teeth it must have been for those sooners for one of their own to come in a whip their beloved sooners like that.
Bob Stoops is now 11/7 against our Longhorns. That's a definite edge no denying that. What hurts me is the edge in conference titles but mostly the blowout losses 4 of them to be exact. Now we would not be taking about Baylor and Art Briles today if it wasn't for what happened on 11/19/11. On that night OK seemed to be in control of the Big XII race and looked like it had a great chance to be in the title game but a funny thing happened to the Stoopster that night. They were playing Baylor a team that had never beaten OK not even once the games were never even close. RG III had a game for the ages that night. He threw for almost 500 yards, 4 td passes and ran for another 70 yards. It was comparable to Vince's game against SC. The last td pass came with just a few seconds left and Baylor finally beat OK. I say this because the dc for OK that night was a guy named Brent Venables. That game saved not just Baylor fb but their entire athletic program. It's the reason that people actually talk about Baylor fb now. Well Bob Stoops was obviously furious. So mad he fired the cb coach and BV. Little brother Mike had just been fired as hc at AZ and big brother brought him back to OK.
Poor old BV. All he did was get hired by a guy named Dabo Swinney who is probably the best coach in the country. He's been there 5 years and Clemson led the country in defense two years ago and has been in the top ten the last few years. OK has done nowhere near that good. I went on a Clemson site and rivals has BV listed as one of the top 6 recruiters in the ACC and in the top 25 overall. Damn you think Stoops overreacted a little bit? He gets into it on the sidelines they have an grad asst on him the whole game just to keep him from going to far out on the field and getting a penalty on him.
Look BV is a h*** of an asst coach and I can't for the life of me don't understand why he is not a hc somewhere. They say he is waiting for the right job. But hey if not TX than why not Baylor, if TT doesn't turn it around they might want to take a look at him. He also played at KSU under Snyder but word around the campfire in Manhattan says that Snyder wants his son to succeed him. If that's the case than TT, Baylor, or TX might want to take a look at this man. He recruited and coached some great players when he was at OK and now at Clemson. He coached in the Big XII for 13 years and coaches at a school that plays a spread offense has one of the best qb's in the country. And lets face it the past three seasons Big XII defense has been horrible. We need to go in a whole different direction when it comes to coaches or we will continue to be a joke ot the rest of the country. Why not try a top notch dc like BV?
And in the last two years Clemson has beaten the stone cold h*** out of OK in the last two bowl games. You think Venables hasn't enjoyed sticking it to the man who fired him? You think he wouldn't enjoy doing it on a yearly basis if given the opportunity? It would be Royal vs Wilkinson all over again![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
And lets be honest about Tom Herman. Just two weeks ago his Houston team got thumped by SMU. SMU!!!! My family is opposed to TH because they are all convinced he is a cheater and will get us on probation if he is the hc.
Just my .02 worth
sorry for being long winded
