Charlie Strong vs. Gary Patterson? Give me Gary's side. I'd give significantly more weight to the idea of the players wanting desperately to win in order to retain any slim hope of saving Strong's Texas career if those same players hadn't just lost to Kansas.

As uneven as this Texas team has been all season, it probably will meet its match on Friday afternoon against a TCU team that has owned its soul the last two seasons. Other than its dominant win over Baylor, you can argue that TCU has been the most disappointing team in the Big 12 week-in and week-out this season. With a motivated Texas team playing for its coach, I would usually lean towards the team with the best quarterback and player that is playing at home, but this is a Texas team that zigs left when I think it is going to zig right. Therefore, because I think Texas is going to win this game behind a 200-yard effort from D'Onta Foreman, I'm going the other direction with my prediction.

Texas and TCU both in need of a win to become bowl eligible... can you feel the excitement?

Excitement is something I think Texas will bring more of. The players will bring more effort and try to play over their heads given the circumstances. You'd think, especially at home, that it will lead to an inspired performance.

However, TCU isn't quite as bad as its record suggests. It ranks ahead of Texas in overall F/+, FEI Defense, S&P+ Defense, S&P+ Offense, and is just 10 spots behind in FEI offense. Plus, we know that Gary Patterson has owned Charlie Strong. TCU beat Texas by a combined score of 98-17 the last two seasons. While the Longhorns will certainly be up for the game, it would be a shock if TCU isn't either, especially with a chance to keep Texas out of a bowl game.

If the Longhorns are going to move the football and score points at a high rate, they're going to have to do so against a defense that does a good job of limiting explosive plays.

It feels almost silly to side with the team that's planning to trot Kenny Hill out there on the road, but I'm expecting TCU to match Texas' energy. And Patterson has enjoyed great success against Strong.

Nearly every game has been a toss up for me. Heck, I am not sure what my prediction record is, but it cannot be good. Logic says Texas will lose a week after dropping a game against Kansas.

To hell with logic.

This is exactly the kind of game Charlie Strong will get his team up for. This reminds me of TCU pounding Texas in 2015 only to turn around and defeat Oklahoma the following week. I can see Strong's team being pumped out, playing their best game of the season, beating TCU, and the coach being carried off the field by his players. Will that image be enough to save Strong's job? I don't know. However, Strong will definitely fight to keep his job, and this is a game I see him winning.

Another week, another match-up of two very average teams ... on their best weeks.

This feels like a game Texas will win if for no other reason than it will cause more mayhem with Texas' coaching situation. That and the fact that I don't think TCU is very good at all.

Give me Texas in a win in which the Longhorns actually play pretty well on both sides of the ball.
