In case you are not aware, this is a documentary from National Geographic about a mountain climber from Sacramento Alex Hannold. It covers the climb up Yosemite's El Capitan. The climb is free of any ropes or harnesses. The human spirit simply boggles the mind sometimes. It was a successful climb-7,573 feet.

Free climbing at those hights is pure cray-cray to me. The odds are not in your favor when you have to get it 100% right 100% of the time or you die, as many have.
Cool for an adrenaline rush....but craaaazy.

Oh hell no. I'll fall off that flipping cliff just watching it on TV. I can't get on a ladder with more than two steps.

That dude is just wired differently. I mean, literally. They did an MRI of his brain, and his amygdala is basically turned off. Wonder if he has some psychopathy genes.

Even the amazing video does nothing for the scale of that place. That was one of the things I didn't expect when I was there...the size of everything. I will definitely be giving it a watch.

Then there was this guy. Pretty sure he eventually made a mistake and is no longer with us.
Really, who JUMPS at that height!?

That's just nuts.

You had to do mountain training at some point. With the Swedes? Or do they just teach the cool class where you have to shoot and ski and the same time and never hit a fvcking thing you're aiming at?

I wish! Instead of BDUs I'd have to do it in a tux, James Bond style.
I did get "stuck" in Piancavallo for 2 weeks long ago....maybe that qualifies.

Yeah! but they was born doing that clob!

So I watched this Free Solo show this evening. If possible, record it and skip to the last 20 minutes. The first 40 minutes goes through a lot of examining this guy's psyche, his friends and girlfriend giving interviews about him and their views and concerns with his upcoming climb etc. Kind of weird but I will say, the last 20 minutes is legit and the guy is an idiot for free climbing that sheer cliff of terror but he definitely has balls of steel.
