So today is the first game of the season for Austin FC vs Cincinnati.
I’m thinking with a healthy team and some new additions to the roster, we could have a playoff team.
Already 2-0, first half.
A 5-0 final.

FC Cincy is a train wreck, lol.

Good for Los Verdes though. Hope to make it to a game.

FCD looked as if they might be a contender for a playoff spot as well. Arriola is going to help big time. That young midfield will take some time to gel, but damnit they are dynamic. That drafted kid from Oregon State wasted no time in showing he belongs.

My buddy's kid plays for the Austin FC youth team-- or whatever it's called. I'm trying to get more into soccer but damn, they make it hard.

Meh....... most of it.

haha, right on.

It can be slow and confusing to folks watching for the first time. But you either love the strategy involved, or you just don't like it at all.

It's the same for any sport. Some people like pitchers duels, some don't. Some like wishbone, some don't. And so on.

Soccer is a sport where everyone touches the ball. Everyone has to be ready at any time. Ball movement and player off the ball movement are vital. If you don't get those things it is extremely boring. But if you watch two teams that can move the ball quickly and are always on the front foot trying to score it is fun to watch.

Reading this made me think, "but she's got a great personality", lol.

haha, I guess.

It's like any other sport. Some people are captivated, some think it is the most boring sport ever. If gambling and fantasy football weren't involved, the NFL wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is. No disrespect, but football is one of the silliest sports ever invented. They took rugby and told the bigger, slower dudes, you know what, I don't think you guys should be allowed to run the ball.

The sport takes very little brain power and strategic thinking from a players standpoint compared to other sports. And even when you add coaching element, it still isn't very cognitive.

I'm not saying football players and coaches are dumb, not even close, just saying the sport itself isn't very hard to play or coach compared to many others.

Look, I get the strategy. It's no different than when I first saw the Bulls run the triangle offense. You're moving the ball between players in order to generate angles that are open to the goal--- and if you get some mismatches along the way, even better. The Dutch are good at this.

At this age though it's "this kid can outrun everybody so let's hail Mary kick to him, hope he's not offsides, and let him run past everyone for a 1 on 1 with the goalie in the open field."

The set pieces are improving..... but because you don't have grown ass men than can jump, corner kicks usually make it either through the box untouched, or get knocked down and cleared.

I get it, they'll get better. They'll improve. But you still won't convince me that the US will ever be "Brazil" good-- much less France or Germany good.

Looks like they won 5-1 today. WTH is going on?! Haven’t had a chance to watch them play in either of their games this season. What’s the big difference this season? I know they can’t sustain this but seems like anything short of a playoff appearance will be a disappointment.

Yes, they did win today. Over Miami. I think it’s a combination of 2 things, the competition in the first two games has not been great, and the addition of at minimum 3 new players has been really good.
We’re also at full strength health wise. Last year it seemed like someone was always injured and missed time.
Never the less, off to a great start.
In the words of Cali, “did you know”, that the ten goals we have made to start a season for the first 2 games is a MLS record.

Unfortunately FC could not muster up a goal and lost 1-0. I do have to say though that the team looks light years better than last years team.

Freeper…please tell me you’re just kidding around
Like @clob94 I've been trying to understand soccer more. I've got a couple buddies who are all about it. One of them is a huge Manchester fan. I asked him who their rivals were, he mentioned Chelsea and Arsenal. Arsenal has a cannon in their logo....I was sold. Still don't understand the game but whenever he posts something soccer related on Facebook, I'm right there with Go Arsenal..!!!

It’s been a while for a soccer update, and I know a lot of you are curious.
Austin FC is having an incredible season so far about 60% through. El Tre actually sits atop the standings with 40 points, 1 ahead of LAFC, who has played one game less. Playing Dallas tonight. I want to say the league’s best road record.
It’s been a fun and exciting season so far, the team has really come together and jelled.
All welcome to jump aboard!

Bi-weekly update for those waiting anxiously:

Austin FC won again last night 2-0 over KC. Presently sit in 2nd close behind LA. Lost at home last week with our all star goalie out for protocol. Just signed a designated player out of Argentina, who should add some more offensive firepower.
By the way, watching some of this womens Euro finals. Some lookers on the field.

I really try to enjoy the Women's game, but damn it is SOOOO slow. I watched a bit of it here and there.

The home team put on a display last night for probably the organization’s biggest win, beating first place LAFC 4-1. Pretty exciting game and great crowd.
Oh, and this is for freeper:

That was one hell of a game today!! What a comeback by the Gunners. First big gutcheck of the season and they passed it. Speaking of passing....could you pass me the imperial blue and red Kool-Aid....
