I recently accepted a job as middle and high school principal at an international school in Frankfurt, Germany. My wife has accepted the college counseling job at the same school. We are going to sell our house here in OKC and rent in Germany, but are interested in having a place to come "home" to in the States during Christmas, summer, and the fall and spring breaks. The time off is built around folks being able to go home for more extended time periods.
My parents live outside of Mineola, Texas and we are interested in building a two car garage with a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment on a 3-5 acre parcel that we purchase from my parents on their land (total of about 19 acres). We would like to AirBnB or VRBO the apartment while we are gone to offset some of the costs. It’s near Lake Holbrook and about 10 minutes from Lake Fork.
I was curious if anyone has experience doing something like this as a second home/cabin? Any experience getting a mortgage or know of someone that could help with this sort of thing?
