OT: Disney Land in August this year

Any tips for a family of 4 with a 10 and 8 year old? I am thinking of doing just one park and staying on site for a night. Would this be enough time or should we do two days? Is it worth staying at Disney Land or should we get tickets separate get a nicer place close by?
