OT: Good Civil War army commanders were few and far between

Grant, Sherman, and maybe Meade, Sheridan, and Thomas for the Union and Lee and Jackson for the Confederates. Maybe Albert Sidney Johnston if he’d survived Shiloh. Beyond that, most commanding generals on both sides were mediocrities or outright failures — Union generals MacDowell, McClellan, Pope, Burnside, Hooker, Rosecrans, etc. and Confederate generals Joe Johnston, Bragg, Hood, etc. And most were West Pointers. (Not talking about subordinate officers, many of whom were good to excellent.)
