Long intro- none of this is intended to be a humble brag or pity party…just want to use the power of this network to solve some really annoying issues at the house.
I live in an unannexed neighborhood in NW Austin, so we are kind of in the dark ages with technology. Still have septic, overhead power / phone lines, etc.. I have less than stellar internet through Spectrum. It is more than adequate as far as up and down speeds, but it is so unreliable it’s not even funny. The equipment they provide goes out about every 2-3 months and I’m constantly resetting and rebooting the equipment. Most nights, I have to use my cellular service or hotspot to do anything. We have a theater room in the house which has trouble streaming consistently, basically rendering it pointless to have at times. On top of that, we installed a pool in the backyard this Summer and the equipment installed to control it is all through an app requiring it to be connected to the WIFI network, which has caused a lot of issues already. Most of the time I set it to “service” mode and manually control everything at the board.
Now, all of these are first world problems for sure, but all I really want is for stuff to work the way it is meant to work.
Does anyone have suggestions for a company or service that could come to the house, review our service and setup, and provide a solution to create a strong, reliable network so I can actually feel confident that everything using or connected to WIFI will actually work like it is supposed to? I know there is equipment I can buy to make a mesh network and all, but I’d need help with programming to ensure I’m circumventing the shitty Spectrum equipment to maximize the service and make it more reliable which I’m confident is over my head.
