Thought I’d share my itinerary and awesome trip from NYC from last weekend in case anyone is planning a trip soon.
Friday:
Depart Austin at 7AM, Arrive 11:30AM to Newark, in City by 12:30 with Car service (Dial7)
Stayed at “Nomo Soho” hotel in (obviously) Soho. Great hotel and great location. Easy walking distance to SOHO, Greenwich, Chinatown, Washington Square Park, NYU, canal street subway, WTC.
Lunch: Famous Ben’s Pizza on Spring and Thompson. Classic NYC by the place piece.
Shopped at vintage stores, record stores (Generation Records is great), etc.
Day drinking at “Shade” “The Spaniard” and “Lure”
Nap
Dinner: Le CouCou (French, super short walk from hotel). Great meal, great atmosphere. Bring your credit card with plenty of space open.
Saturday:
Walked to WTC and saw memorial, Oculus.
Subway to “Oscar Wildes” for lunch. Excellent drinks, super cool building and décor. Lunch was so so.
Matinee show “To Kill a Mockingbird”. Wow, just wow. Ed Harris was phenomenal. Rest of the cat was great. Highly recommend.
Nap
Dinner: sushi nakazawa (greenwich village, 20min walk from hotel). OH MY GOD. May be the singular best meal I’ve ever had. 10 course “Premium” tasting menu (they only have tasting menu) for $180. The fish literally melted in your mouth. One course of Wagyu beef which was awesome.
Walked in the rain to the Village Vanguard (ground zero for Jazz) and saw the “Chris Potter Trio”. Bucket list checked.
Sunday:
Dim Sum at Royal Seafood in chinatown (Mott Street). First sign this was going to be good was I’m pretty sure we were the only white folk in the large (150?) seat place. Sat with a super nice family that helped us order and navigate the system. Yes, Ive been to Dim Sum before but this was not Austin, more like mainland China. Just awesome.
Super nice day so we headed up to the park to walk around. Stopped for a drink at Rue 57.
Walked down to the Hudson Theatre to see David Byrne’s Utopia show. Absolutely fantastic. Really connected in the small theatre. Much different than seeing him in a larger setting. Played plenty of Talking Heads hits. Highly recommended.
Cab down to Lupa restaurant in Soho. Fantastic meal. Classic Italian. Great way to end the decadent trip with chocolate bourbon gelato.
Catch a car to JFK. Direct flight to ATX, arrive home at 1AM.
Dragging ass all day.
