The Battle of Quebec, fought in 1759 on the Plains of Abraham just west of Quebec City between the British army led by Gen. James Wolfe and French forces led by the Marquis de Montcalm, lasted less than 30 minutes. Wolfe and Montcalm were both fatally wounded, the British won the day and their victory gave them Canada as the ultimate prize in the French and Indian War (Seven Years' War). The crushing expense of that war led the British to initiate heavy taxation of their American Colonies, which led just 16 years later to . . .

The Battles of Lexington and Concord, fought 250 years ago this weekend between the British and the American colonists (Minutemen). Those "battles" each lasted less than 10 minutes, but started the Revolutionary War that led to American independence and creation of the United States.

The Battle of San Jacinto, 189 years ago tomorrow between Sam Houston's Texans and Santa Anna's Mexican Army, lasted only about 18 minutes but led to Texas independence and its eventual annexation by the United States.

Hard to think of other short battles that had a bigger impact on our history than these.
