Hey guys, I need a little help. I haven't been back to Austin in 15 or 20 years but I've been promising my better half that I'd take her to UT football game.

So I'm pulling the trigger this weekend and we're going to the TCU game. We're staying downtown at the OMNI. Game starts at 3.30 . . . So . . .

Where to go before the game that's close enough to walk or Uber over to the game?

In no particular order, I'd like a place that has:

1. Smoked Beef/BBQ
2. Big Tiddied Waitresses
3. Ice Cold Beer on Tap
4. Good Music
5. Big Tiddied Waitresses
6. Lots of TV's

Anybody got any suggestions for me? Much appreciated.

Wonder if that Bevo Blvd thing would be good? They have food trucks and I bet some good bbq joints have one there. Plus, Reckless Kelly supposed to be playing I think. I think that would be a good pregame experience, especially if youre doing it only once this year. No good looking waitresses, but the views should be pretty nice.

Order the beef rib and pork chop. Again, thank me later.

This will be my first time back in the stadium since late 90's. My wife surprised me with ticket this summer to the TCU game. Her cancer came back about a month ago. She won't let me talk her out of going even though she is on some very strong chemo. I want to brag on our guest services at the stadium. We didn't have wheelchair tickets and she didn't buy through the texas website. But they will exchange our tickets at the gate and have given me the whole set up and places I can take her to cool down if needed. Also, told me the easiest way to get her to the stadium and what gate to wheel her in. I don't know if its always been like this, but this was one worried husband until talking to the ladies in that department. I'm still worried about she will hold up while being there, but I know where everything is and how to get her there if we need it. I wish I knew a big forum to brag on them, because they have been AWESOME!
Now I just need the Horns to show up and play hard. I too was at the destruction in Ft Worth a few years back.

I'd check out Bevo Blvd. Heard good things about it. Scholz Garten is always a favorite spot of mine for pre or post game fun

Had a buddy that was at the game this past weekend, said Bevo Blvd was awesome. CDC getting the students/locals involved and interested in football was huge. Did yall see the student section 1 1/2 hours before the game? It was packed.

My parents had season tickets from 1966 to maybe 1996. My mother had a back fusion and was very limited. They used to park UNDER the stadium. Right next to the stairs to their seats. Then even that became too much. It was great while it lasted.

Google review....can't believe I didn't think of that! I will go do it!

TX1972....sounds like amazing Horn fans!

1968, I was a freshman living in San Jacinto dorms. $108./ semester for a single room. We'd walk down for a few pitchers. Never did get carded. The graffiti was eye opening for me: And god said let there be light! Reply: show your work. Also: Scholz' doesn't sell beer... they rent it

I got to drink a St. Patty's day green beer with Willie Nelson at Scholz'. Well, I stood next to him, but he didn't know I was there. That's my claim to fame. Lol.
Hook em Horns!

Well, I didn't have a car, a tv, a cell phone, air conditioning. My daughters would have hated it. But, had a lot of fun. Those were the years when Austin got weird.

Yeah Clob, Coopers was great. Got the beef ribs and brisket. Brisket was very salty but I like that so all good. Beer was nice and cold.

Terry Blacks was good too.

Austin got weird.

It was a weird town in the 60's but, you could get 60 yrs in Huntsville for having 1or2 grass joints on ya still good fun and music, its just when all these computer nerd and polyester suits guys got it and ruined it, I grew up there in the 40'50'60'70's and was a good town till we got the Yankees and dildo protesters, They busted so many people that Huntsville was breaking the walls with outrageous guys doing time for just a small amount, 1 guy I know got a life sentence for having a pound, when they made it a misdemeanor and let everyone outa Huntsville wasn't no body left to cook for..LOL, in fact I street raced at 110 mph down the Drag in front of COOP had a 57 Chevy that would blow the shit outa these Mustangs and Challenger today...Good Times, Climbing the Moon Lights to the top and drinking beer up there..LOL

Ya but, at San Jac you could watch the Horns practice TX! across from Stadium

One of my roommates had a cousin who was active in SDS. One day, the vice squad came up to him, told him where he had been the last 72 hours or so. Belmer Wright did the light show at Vulcan, got set up. Many of those arrests were political. Overall, though, I think the Austin PD was better than Dallas. Henry Wade was setting records for wrongful convictions.

What good days! Like I told Schltz the best place in Town was the Liberty Lunch!

Hey guys, as I posted in this thread my wife's cancer came back in July after she had bought us tickets to the froggies vs Texas game. We made the game and had the best time ever! She was a trooper. Wish i could figure out how to post pics on here. I'm not super tech savy. She would check this board more than me (which is many times a day). She knew you all by your handles and would love to read along with me. She was not a horn before we met, but she became one.....setting the DVR for anything Texas!
She passed away 3 weeks ago today..........Feb 27th at 7:40 pm. I know none of you knew her or me.......but I know she is smiling knowing that you all know a converted Horn fought her ass off and won.....she is healed now. I see we are underdogs to froggies next year. BET YOUR ASS I'll be there and her spirit will be with me as we beat them again!!! She was so animated at that game as we sat near the TCU section in the wheelchair area.
Anyway.......it was important to me to let ya'll know how much she loves the conversations on here.........esp you Clob........she laughed her ass off at you!

Man, sorry to hear of your loss. There is no description of how much cancer sucks. We just lost one our own last week as well. From annual pap exam to her last breath took just over 1 month. 36yrs young.... I pray to God the cancer cure an Israeli company developed translates well in human trials. F-cancer!

My condolences ehorn.
When I was 14, doctors found a grapefruit size tumor in my 13 yr old brother. Passed away 3 months later. And this was all at MD Anderson. 3 yrs later asa senior in high school I lost my father on NY Eve, 1981.
I cringe every time I hear MD Anderson.
Prayers to all of you affected by this sh!tty disease.

Well I'm incredibly flattered and offer my sincere condolences.

Thanks guys! She was 41 years old. She fought 30 months like a champion. She was sick as a dog the night of the Sugar Bowl but stayed up to the end to celebrate how bad we kicked their asses. She told me she knew she wouldn't see another game but was glad that was the last one!
Y'all have a great day and thank you so much for taking a second to reply!

EWN, sorry to hear the news of your wife. Blessings to you and your family. Lost my wife to cancer 26 yrs ago. There's not a day that goes by of when I think of her being a champion and never complaining. Ones like her, your wife and others affected by the illness are the real champion fighters.
