The “overrated” chant is garbage, and Texas fans have no business doing it. I was embarrassed to hear that sh!t on TV, as well as the SEC chant.

We’re Texas, not some punk fan base of a flash in the pan upstart program.
While I mostly agree with this post, there are circumstances that dictate backlash. Case in point---- I had several friends that were former players at this game. They'd spent several days in NOLA running into jawja fans that would openly mock them on the street. Saying things like "you don't belong here. Your team and conference sucks. You're not SEC ready." Etc etc. The horns down was a jawja calling card. I had one dude tell me that at Cafe du'monde one morning, the jawja fans had basically taken it over and were horns downing everyone that walked by. I think the chants were backlash from a tired Texas fan base. Tired of being singled out and mocked by bulldog fans. I'm not saying it was right, I'm just saying -------- I sorta understand.

After hearing all that I completely understand why they would do it!

Generally hate the “overrated” chant. (And at least wait until it would be impossible for Texas to lose, for f*ck’s sake.) Love the SECSECSEC chant, though.

Anyway, if clob’s account is anything like what most Texas fans experienced from UGA fans in NOLA, hard to blame them for whatever they chanted.

I'm not a big fan of the Overrated chant. I like throwing the other teams chant back at them example: chanting SECSECSEC. I was at a High School game earlier this year and we played at Team that was chanting 2 weeks before We want *****, so when we were beating their ass the students threw it back at them.

I mean, I understand frustration and all that. And if I was there, I’m not sure I’d do any better containing it (I’d be drunk - so I definitely wouldn’t). I’m just saying that sort of business lumps us in with fan bases and alumni of lesser schools. We’re better than that.

Clob, I’m not sure when you played - but if you ever had to take a loss, and the other team and fans acted like it was just another day at the office and didn’t lose their sh!t............ I would guess that it stung a helluva lot more, no?

When people play Texas, thinking for whatever reason (usually watching too much ESECPN) that they’re going to roll us, and they get a rude awakening like that, I want them to think about it for a long time. I want it to change them.

I don’t want them having sh!t on us for acting a fool. I want them to remember that Texas is in fact, in every way, better than them.

In reality the only people bringing this up are rival fans. I don't see it posted on ESPN, FOX Sports, LHN, etc.. I mean are you seeing articles about Texas fans acting rude and all that overrated chanting is classless. Nah! Just something someone posted about and now it's bothering some. You give some better be willing to take it.

I think the whole horns down thing being a penalty adds to rival fans giving it more to Texas fans than usual. I don’t get into the chanting or horns down or OU sucks in Texas Fight but a lot of fans relish that stuff

And I completely see your point and it is valid. But follow me just for a second-- you've seen the sec commercials on TV. You've seen the crowds chant "sec" before during a bowl win. You've noticed how the sec has transformed their image from a group of individual schools into a collective football community of school (at least that's the image that the conference heads are selling). At the end of each one of those sec commercials they have sound bites of a crowd chanting "sec! Sec! Sec!" ----- and honestly, I think folks are a little tired of it. So when an sec powerhouse gets curb stomped by a two touchdown underdog--- especially by a team that for the last decade has had a dark cloud over its head--- I can sympathize with our fans wanting to let a little frustrative joy out. I will admit, I was more wound up after this game than I was after the ou game. It just FELT GOOD to be on the winning end of a big bowl game again. It's been a while for us. I'm inclined to allow this one to slide----- knowing that if we had been playing for nattys year in and year out, then I would be more critical of our fans.

I agree 100% with this. Spot-on, clob. I'm not going to apologize, but as the game wore on and my son and I were watching and heard the "SECSECSEC" and "overrated" chants from the Texas fans, we were laughing our asses off. $EC fans bring this sh*t on themselves and it was well deserved in your face retribution.

I love the mocking of the sec sec sec chant they need it thrown back in their face cause if we were on the losing end we would of heard the chants. Florida put a sign on their sideline saying this is sec country when they had the game in hand against Michigan.

Can’t say I disagree with any of that at all. I’m just an elitist prick when’s it comes to my alma mater.

Btw, sorry we never hooked up in Gruene on NYE - the wife and I didn’t make it to town until about 10:00. We did manage to catch American Aquarium’s last set which was solid. Everyone in the crowd seemed to know every song, so that was cool.

Have you ever done the Horns Down sign Bell? Be Truthful, Truth is Character!

I do it in private for my old dog. I haven’t really read an OU board being critical of the over rated chant. This board is where I learned of it. I like it and sorry I missed it. I quit watching at 28-14. I wanted Texas to win but I didn’t care to watch the celebration.

Honestly, I have never ever done it out and about or at a game etc. I have several UT guys that I work with and they know I think it’s ridiculous and kind of a running joke so on occasion just to jack with them I may throw one their way as I walk by their office. But I would never do it in public around strangers or at a game etc.

Back in 2005 when WVU played UGA in the Sugar Bowl, the UGA fans brought a new level of meaning to the word obnoxious. The mentality that nobody other than the SEC has ever played football before is just crazy, but SEC fans truly feel that way. And to make it worse, we played the Sugar Bowl in Atlanta because Hurricane Katrina had damaged the Super Dome and New Orleans was still a mess.

When we went up 28-0 on them, the level of disbelief in their eyes was amazing. All we heard all week was SEC SPEED, SEC SPEED, ETC... And the ESPN talking heads all week leading up to the game were buying and selling the SEC hype, saying WVU was going to get man-handled.

I still rank that as probably one of the most satisfying wins WVU has had. It wasn’t for any kind of championship, but it was just satisfying to shut their fans up.

Sorry but FAIL bro...... it isnt garbage at all simply bc EVERYONE is overrated compared to Texas.... i feel it was polite of our fans to remind the gutter trash of what their stations in life truly are - overrated trash. lmfao and btw everyone already knows all but Bama is overrated trash when it comes to the SEC anyways. blowu can relate to being trash im sure, ;)

Well guys don't forget LSU is coming to Austin on 9/7/19. My next door neighbor growing up played fb for a&m when Emory Bellard was their coach. They used to have home and home series against LSU and he told me LSU fans were on a level by themselves when it came to bad fans. He said you wouldn't believe the things they say and do. I guess we'll find out when they come to town.

How many visitor tickets are available? 4000? We'll not find out until we go to Baton Rouge.

I don't think we'll see anything new. We've had plenty if bad fan experience at aggyland, desert tortilla aggy, ozark feral pig aggy, and landthief U. Sprinkle some Ohio dates on top.
We've seen things man...... we've seen things.

Fresh with either the acid flashback or the ptsd flashback.

Not sure which.

back in the day....when you played arky in Fayettville you had to show up to the game with a full tank of gas and a locking gas cap. After a Texas win there, not one gas station in arky would sell any gas to any car with a Texas plate....no bullshit. Tim Cambell once said that playing in Fayetteville was like parachuting into Russia.

100% true. I'd honestly say arky took the cake when it came to being straight nasty from top to bottom. I remember the ride back home with my dad after a loss. EVERY radio station was playing the woo pig song followed by a "short squash Texan" song. Not sure if it made it to YouTube or not.

Who gives a s#*@? It was a big win and people were excited! What the Hell's wrong with "OVERRATED?" People are too sensitive.
