Can someone give a summary of our d-line situation plz. I know we signed all those DTs but do we have any DEs? I think this team will surprise alot of people if we get adequate QB play n get pressure on the opposing QB................thoughts???

The interior will be Poona Ford and Boyette being backed up by Nelson and a host of freshmen. The ends will be Cottrell and Hughes with Omenihu and Vasser backing them up as well as Hager, fitxgerald and Roach seeing time on the field. It's thin, we need them to stay healthy. McMillan is also available for the interior if he wasn't moved back to OL.

Omenihu, Cottrell, Hughes, and Vasser are your DEs. The new DEs in the 2016 class are Fitzgerald and Roach. Hard to say what impact any of these guys make before fall camp.

Here are Daniels and Elliott at UTL. Elliott(in black) is the slimmest 320lbs I've ever seen.

The fox ends are Hughes and Hagar. Hughes can make some plays. Not sure if he is NFL talent but solid. Hagar was spun down from inside backer. Looked good in the spring but not sure how that translates to the season. Strong ends are Omenihu, Cottrell, and Vassar. Probably our deepest group on the D-line. We are fine at Fox end and DE. DTs are Boyette and Ford. I would describe them as adequate. But Poona started making plays at the end of last season. I think he might surprise some people this year. Have no clue about what to expect from Chris Nelson or Gerald Wilbon but most expect 1 or 2 of the true freshman to get a significant amount of playing time.

Higdon posted this with no mention of Vasser. Oversight?-

DE Bryce Cotrell – Charles Omenihu
DT Poona Foord – Chris Nelson
DT Paul Boyette – D’Andre Christmas Giles already 300
DE Nashon Hughes – Andrew Fitzgerald already 260

Now throw in these 6 guys --

Breckyn Hager
Malcolm Roach at 260
Jordan Elliott 300 +
Chris Daniels 300 +
Marcel Southall 285 +
Gerald Wilbon 300 +

oversight...unless, there has been a position change.

It's got to be oversight. Vasser may not be great but he will get PT with the amount of snaps our defense will face. We aren't deep at DE.

I'm not concerned at all about our Dline. We have a lot of solid guys we are going to play this year.

DE - Nashon Hughes, Charles Omenihu, Bryce Cotrell, Quincy Vasser, Erik Fowler, Andrew Fitzgerald,

DT - Paul Boyette, Poona Ford, Chris Nelson, Jordan Elliott, D'Andre Christmas-Giles, Gerald Wilborn,

We have others guys in the system that could also make an impact

We will be fine on the d'line.

The issue here isn't depth, the issue is elite talent and playmaking. Texas needs elite pass rushers at DE, guys OC have to scheme against. Depth alone will not cut it.

It doesn't matter who is the starting DL. What matters is, who can bring the most pressure. Strong will get the best on the field. I'm not worried about the position with the amount of freshmen that's been added.

We can't switch to a 3-4 because we'll get our a$$e$ run over.

I'm leary right now about our D-line. I think our LBs are going to have their work cut out for them.

Until you get them in a game situation, you won't know who the good players are.

Paul Boyette, Poona Ford, Chris Nelson and Jake McMillon in the mix and it’s assumed Alex Norman will join them. Gerald Wilbon, Chris Daniels, Jordan Elliot, DCG and Marcel Southall are the candidates at DT.

5th year Sr Paul Boyette and Jr Poona Ford were major contributors in 2015.

Lots of bodies to work with and all of the new kids are over 300. I don't think it will be as ugly as last years 111th ranked rushing D. Although, it might not be much better.

So the meat of DT and DE position and their composite rank:

DT:
5th year Sr. Paul Boyette 4* Mack
5th year Sr Alex Norman 4* Mack
Jr. Poona Ford 4* Strong
Soph. Jake McMillon 3* Mack
Soph. Chris Nelson 3* Strong
Fresh. DCG 4* Strong
Fresh. Chris Daniels 4* Strong
Fresh. Jordan Elliot 4* Strong
Fresh. Marcel Southall 3* Strong
Fresh. Gerald Wilbon 3* Strong

DE:
5th year Sr. Bryce Cottrell 3* Mack
Sr. Quincy Vasser 3* Strong
Jr. Naashon Hughes 3* Mack
Soph. Charles Omenihu 3* Strong
Fresh. Fitzgerald 4* Strong
Fresh. Malcom Roach 3* Strong

DE/LB:
Soph. Breckyn Hager 3* Strong
Fresh. Eric Fowler 4* Strong/whether he enrolls or not is unknown

a little off subject here but could this be one of the best offenses that Art Briles ever helped build?.........LOL

yall r both forgetting about that stud high 4* OL Patrick Hudson....so thats
2 4* OL n 1 4* WR....2 of the 3 are rated amongst the top 62 players in the nation by rivals.

Just wanted to say thanks 4 all ur replies guys.....i feel so much more informed now. i think we will be good on the D-line

We will have depth on the DL for the first time in a while but the depth will all be true freshmen.

well..................

Answer is no. There are only 2 Baylor offense refugees that will seeing playing time this year. That doesn't make it one of the best Os Briles has contributed to.
