Peloton

I'm 54, about 15 pounds over my ideal weight, and hadn't exercised in a long, long time. Got the bike near the end of March and love it so far. I've done 36 rides. Still trying to build up my leg strength and endurance. Any resistance over 45 kicks my ass. My best output for a 30 minute ride was yesterday, at 233. Nothing special, but improving nearly every ride.

46, just got it yesterday and love it so far.

Still not certain what everything means. My "output" is only 162 average, but maxed at 412. I'm gonna read up on it because I'm competitive. I 'scored' in about the top half of riders, but I don't know the rules of the game which is frustrating. I bought it for my wife, but I think the whole family will use it. I generally don't like cycling, but this was fun and burned nearly 600 calories.

Im right there with you.

Just turned 40, about 15 pounds over weight.

2 weeks in and Ive improved my output from around 150 on a 20 min ride to 217. Ive lost 13 pounds in 2 weeks (eating healthier too).

Really enjoying it.

Good going. My best output on a 20 minute ride so far is under 180. I'm thrilled if I finish in the top 30-45% on the leaderboard.

I love this thread! The peloton is amazing! I strongly encourage all the new folks to try the “Discover Your Powerzones” mini series. Powerzone training is the best!

I hear that a lot. In a few weeks I plan to start that. So far I've just been trying to build up a respectable amount of leg strength and endurance.

It’s ok to start that way. In fact, it’s good. You will take a fit test at the beginning and then a fit test in 4 weeks that will show you your progress. Then you’ll be off in the world of powerzone.

Have had mine since November of 2020 and love it. Up to 95 rides now. Dennis Morton's 45 minutes classic rock rides are my go to and have done a few of Matt Wilper's 75 minute endurance rides. As others have mentioned, Olivia Amato's rides are very challenging. I did her 45 minutes classic rock ride yesterday and it kicked my ass.

If you have just started, stick with it and you will see your output and resistance improve in no time. After 2-3 weeks, don't be afraid to stretch those 20/30 minute rides to 45 minutes. I'm an old and can handle it.

Good luck

Can’t imagine riding a stationary bike when the weather is nice, and this is the nicest time of year. Bought a new gravel bike and been riding the shit out of it. No monthly fees

I mix in peloton rides with mountain biking. It helps my endurance a ton.

I had peloton shoes for 2 years and had to replace them due to stink, I got venzo shoes instead, and they are great and my output has vastly improved. Not sure if it’s the shoes or psychological, but I love them. They are about $55
Which Venzo shoes did you get?

Anyone recommend any workouts on the app that blends in daily workouts along with the bike rides for beginners?

If anyone needs a referral code is: RCD98Q
It gets you $100 off of accessories (shoes, weights... etc.)

Also, if your a first responder or health care worker, make sure you mention it. You will get their essentials package (weights, shoes, and mat) for free.
How does one get the essential package free? My girl is a nurse and we plan to buy ours in a few months

I was riding like a madman, up to four or five 1 hour sessions a week. Then I got hit with a bad case of Morton’s Neuroma and it stopped me in my tracks. One of, if not the, most painful conditions I’ve ever experienced. If you are having foot issues and ride regularly I recommend studying up on MN, or another condition called metatarsalgia, to see if your symptoms correlate.

What I have done to overcome it is put on regular pedals so that I can use running shoes while I ride. I may eventually go back to clip in pedals and shoes, but the relief so far provided by using regular pedals has been pronounced.

Strange because I would think riding shoes with clips would provide a lot more support than running shoes.

Just call them up and mention she is a health care worker and ask them for the essential package. If you already ordered the bike or bike+ they will add it to your order and deduct the price. They ask for proof, so we provided a picture of my wife’s hospital ID to an email they gave us.

Thank you for that heads up sir!

Anyone have any recommendations for mats? We have ours on a regular yoga mat on carpet. It was fine for the first week or so but my last two rides, I have noticed a ton of wobble with the bike and I can rock the bike by just touching it with two fingers. My form may be part of the problem but when I hit higher zones it really wobbles.

Why not the mat Peloton sells?
There are a lot of cheaper options out there so I was going to see what other people use/have experience with. There are soft and high density mats. Idk if I need a high density for carpet or if I can get away with a soft mat. Just curious what everyone else is using.

Denis Morton is one of my favorite instructors, but he got knocked down several notches after my ride this morning.

He totally faked adding resistance throughout the ride. He would put his hand down around the knob and pretend he was twisting it, and the knob never moved. And it was throughout the ride. Maybe he was filming multiple rides that day and needed the energy, but still lame.

Is anyone using the new strive score feature? I understand that it is linked to the heart rate but there doesn't seem to be a direct correlation to output. Am I missing something?

That’s why I only ride with the hotties. I’ve never once looked at their hands 😝

I have never noticed this and am bummed you mentioned it here. Why not let us enjoy our ignorance on this one issue? Damnit.

They all ride under their level while filming. Especially if it’s anything above an endurance ride. They have to be able to talk.

We rode a PZ Max on the challenge yesterday. That was a gnarly ride even though I've ridden it twice now and the total output was relatively low.

Recently I have been disappointed to learn that Peloton has deleted some of Wilpers' older 60 minute PZ (not PZE or PZM) rides. The older ones are generally harder than the newer ones. I don't like that they delete anything as he only records 1 60 minute PZ per week and I like doing 2 per week.

I am in a place where ~60% of my rides are Wilpers, ~25% Morton, and ~15% other. Morton doesn't do any 60 minute PZ rides which is frustrating. He did one in tandem with Wilpers but that was it. I guess they don't have much demand for 60 minute PZ rides.
