The early signing period is already here. The fall flew by, and the first National Signing Day of the cycle has arrived. Naturally, there are several players of interest in regards to the Texas Longhorns.
Steve Sarkisian and his staff have added some key prospects in recent days, headlined by 2022 5-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks and Ohio State transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers. 4-star Allen offensive lineman Neto Umeozulu and Duncanville offensive lineman Cameron Williams have also given their pledge to the Longhorns since Sunday.
We have outlined who you need to be paying attention to for Texas throughout the day on Wednesday.
Arlington Seguin athlete Xavion Brice is currently an Oklahoma commit and has been a Sooners pledge since July. However, Brice took an official visit to Texas over the weekend, putting the Longhorns in the thick of the conversation for the 3-star defender.
When you add in the coaching change at Oklahoma, Brice is certainly weighing his options. He released a top-3 of Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech and is set to announce his decision early on Wednesday morning.
SIGNING: 7:00 a.m.
Rivals100 cornerback Terrance Brook has been committed to Ohio State since June. The Little Elm prospect is considered a top-50 player in the 2022 class and was courted by nearly every big-time program in America – taking official visits to Texas, Alabama, and Penn State, in addition to the Buckeyes.
There has been some smoke around Brooks potentially choosing the Longhorns on Wednesday, despite his pledge to the Buckeyes. Former Little Elm DB and Ohio State transfer Ryan Watts recently entered the portal, and the Longhorns are considered to be the favorite to land him. If Texas can add Brooks to the boat, it will be one of the biggest wins of the cycle.
SIGNING: 8:45 a.m.
Denver Harris has long been one of the elite prospects in the Lone Star State. As a result, Texas, Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M have all been squarely in the mix for the Galena Park North Shore defensive back.
The 5-star made a visit to College Station over the weekend, which points to the Aggies likely being in the driver’s seat. That said, there is still some optimism from the Texas side. Harris is a bit of a wildcard, so he is definitely a prospect worth keeping an eye on Wednesday.
SIGNING: 10:30 a.m.
Humble Atascocita offensive lineman Kam Dewberry has had Texas among his list of favorites for a while now. Dewberry is one of the top lineman prospects in the country, and the Longhorns made his top-3 that also consisted of Texas A&M and Oklahoma.
Dewberry visited A&M over the weekend and did not make it to the 40 Acres, despite some initial plans of visiting Austin before signing day. Things have trended away from the Longhorns in this recruitment.
SIGNING: 1:00 p.m.
Grand Prairie’s Savion Red was among the official visitors on the Texas campus this past weekend. Previously committed to SMU, Red opened up his commitment following Sonny Dykes leaving for TCU. Texas put an offer on the table, and the Longhorns are in great shape.
Texas is recruiting Red to play running back in Austin, adding him to 4-star Jaydon Blue in the class. SMU is still hanging around, but Texas is the favorite to land the versatile athlete.
SIGNING: 2:00 p.m.
Shazz Preston included Texas in his top-4, which also included Alabama, Georgia, and LSU. The Longhorns hosted the Rivals100 receiver for an official visit over the summer, but the Louisiana native never made it back to the 40 Acres.
This appears to be an Alabama-LSU battle heading into Wednesday with the Longhorns trying to make a late push.
SIGNING: 3:00 p.m.
A former Texas commit, Armani Winfield opened his recruitment in late November. The Lewisville wideout had been committed to the Longhorns since January but multiple visits to Michigan State put his pledge to the test.
There has been some thought that Winfield would consider getting back into the Longhorns’ class with Ewers transferring in, but it looks like the ship may have sailed there. Baylor is pushing to keep Winfield in state, while the Spartans are looking to add a 4-star pass catcher from the Lone Star State.
SIGNING: 4:00 p.m.
4-star offensive lineman Malik Agbo is set to make his decision on Wednesday afternoon. The Rivals250 prospect recently released a top-4 of Texas, Auburn, Miami, and Oklahoma. Texas has seemingly put itself into a good position for the Washington native, and he is very active with Longhorns commits on social media.
It will be interesting to watch if Texas adding Banks, Umeozulu and Williams to the class has any impact on Agbo. Does Texas have enough room to take both Agbo and Devon Campbell, or is it an either-or situation. The Longhorns would likely struggle to turn Agbo away, but it is at least something to watch. Bill Bedenbaugh remaining at OU makes the Sooners a team to watch if it’s not Texas.
SIGNING: 4:00 p.m.
5-star Frisco Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart is a Texas A&M commit, but he is another prospect to watch for Texas. Stewart is a one-time Texas commit that the Longhorns have been pushing to get back in the class for months.
The expectation is for Stewart to follow through and sign with the Aggies on Wednesday. That said, the addition of Quinn Ewers and Xavier Worthy’s freshman success gives the Longhorns a puncher’s chance to pull off the surprise. Stewart is a true wildcard.
