Yes losing sucks. But, despite the gnashing of teeth by mods and the usual nay-sayer suspects, how about these stats…
  • Held OSU to 81 yds rushing
  • Held all world Jeremiah Smith to, wait for it, 3 FREAKIN yds, and no receiver broke 90
  • Held OSU offense to 21 points, with 7 on a freak explosive
  • Ewers outplayed Howard
The pundits got it wrong. They didn’t kick our ass. A couple calls, a couple plays and we win by one or two scores. It was that close. Yes, Sark has some thinking to do. PK guessed wrong a couple times, but he guessed right far more often. We held a very explosive prolific offense in check, for the most part.

Offense, what are your options when your top two wide-outs miss most of the game, one with a ton of rust to shake off.

Lessons:

1) To survive the current format, you need THREE top tier receivers, a la Bama in in 20/21; TWO reliable power runners and TWO speed backs, TWO elite QBs, and an elite tackle and a very good tackle. And you better be prepared to pay for them. And a defense with at least one elite edge, LB, and DB, and very good tackles. We have had two seasons now where we played extended periods with only one top-tier receiver, and it’s doesn’t allow you to separate and pull away in games. It’s too easy to cover one elite guy, as we did tonight with Smith. Btw, think Barron made some serious coin tonight?
