I'll go on record to say that I think Zelenskyy screwed the pooch, he should have voiced his criticism in private before the media circus that ensued and secured a mineral deal. A mineral deal would mean US presence in his country which would imply security.
Anyway, if I'm Trump, now what? Should Trump try to allow Zelenskyy to save face in some way and get this back on track? Should Zelenskyy apologize and get a deal?
My belief is Trump is playing nice with Putin in order to get him to the table. I don't think, as some believe, that he's Putin's puppet, I think Trump is setting him up to make some concessions of territory and secure an agreement and then work on a plan to deter Putin from invading again. One way is to get the EU to cough up more for their own defense.
The above may just be wishful thinking on my part, but this could go really bad if a deal isn't made soon, Putin will just reload and try to get as much territory as possible before an eventual deal is made, if ever.
