I see where at least 3 5-win teams are in bowls. WTF is up with that? why not do the honorable thing and cancel the bowls in question? Call me crazy but I don't think anyone would lose sleep if the Cure Bowl and Foster Farm Bowl were simply not played. I'm disappointed in Minnesota and Nebraska for not refusing the invitations to the bowls. Thoughts?

It's an extra game for your team and you can play some of your younger players. You get extra weeks of practice. If you are 5-7, you need the extra practices. I think it is just that, a time to gain some good experience and get your younger players more reps.

I agree that it's absurd that we have enough bowls to need to dip down to 5-7 teams to fill all the slots, but bowls are big business, and they're not something that the various organizers and sponsors involved are going to pour time and money into only to possibly have to cancel if there aren't enough teams that finish 6-6 or better. Perhaps the NCAA could theoretically limit the number of them going forward (but they won't, because somehow these things still make money), but I wouldn't expect anyone to cancel something like this that's already organized.

I also definitely don't blame Minnesota or Nebraska for taking bowl bids. I wish we had the opportunity to accept one. It's not about the pointless game itself -- it's about the fact that you get more practices with a bowl game than you do in regular spring practices. We could really use that opportunity for player development.

Edit: Scooped.

I get it that the bowl game shouldn't exist for those teams, but I just don't blame them for taking the game to get the extra work.

But teams should pitifully be allowed to play div II teams to get bowl eligible? No hard and fast rule for that?

Again, it all comes back to money. The reason they don't cancel these bowl games is because they have contracts with networks and sponsors. All those investors would be out a lot of money if the games were cancelled. They don't care about integrity when they are losing money.

I am just glad this season is over. I can't take watching Texas another game. If we had our permanent coaches in place I would probably change my mind, but, we have coaches on their way out. Like Shaka so accurately states "you either give energy to your team or you take energy from your team". Coaches on their way out most always will be "energy takers".

When you see that the stadiums are only about 20per cent filled for some of those bowls ,you have to wonder how they make money at all

And aggy...don't worry....y'all will continue to schedule enough tomatoe cans to get you to 6wins almost every year.

The simple answer is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for the bowl city.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for the schools going.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for the conferences.

and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for the bowl suits lining their pockets with ad $.

Money is the default answer, but what kind of money are we talking about here? When I tune in to watch my 5 minutes of the Godaddy bowl, the stands aren't close to full. So what kind of money is there for the city? What are the teams/conferences getting for their payout?
