It was a long day at Rivals Dallas, where several Texas commits and/or targets where in attendance. Between @Suchomel and I, we were able to catch up with quite a few prospects that made it out.
Here are a few quick-hitter notes from the day...
Ashton Porter won DL MVP honors at the camp. Porter has had a strong offseason, as he also earned an invitation to the UA All-American Game last month. Porter looked good in drills and flashes in 1-on-1 drills. He continues to speak highly of Texas, but notes that he wants to wait until the UA All-American Game to announce a commitment. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Austin Westlake OL TJ Shanahan had a strong day, imposing his strength on multiple defenders. Shanahan plays with a ton of force and has a low center of gravity. The highest-rated prospect in attendance, Shanahan earned OL MVP honors at the camp.
Tay'Shawn Wilson, like Porter, has been on fire this offseason. Wilson is regarded as Rivals250 prospect, and he had a strong showing at Rivals Dallas. He defended a variety of different pass catchers throughout the day and stood out consistently. Wilson earned DB MVP honors and said that he "feels the love" from UT.
Kyle Parker was one of several highly talented pass catchers at Rivals Dallas. Parker was offered by Texas in January, and he has a strong bond with WR coach Brennan Marion. He told OB that Texas is one of his top favorites.
Suchomel recently wrote a story on Jacquaize Pettaway, but we caught up with him again at Rivals Dallas. The Rivals250 wideout again said that he loved everything about his Texas visit and that they're moving up his list. Up next is a visit to OU for the Sooners' spring game.
Mikal Harrison-Pilot recently dropped a top-12, which included UT. Harrison-Pilot is being recruited as a safety by Oregon but says Texas wants him on offense. He showcased his playmaking skills throughout the camp.
Collins doesn't have a UT offer, but the College Station RB turned heads in a big way. He took home RB MVP honors, something that he also won at the UA Dallas Camp. One of the best offensive players in the state.
Recent UT commit S'Maje Burrell displayed his athleticism at the LB position on Sunday, earning LB MVP honors. Burrell continues to shine and is line for a ranking bump, I would imagine, at the next update.
2024 No. 10 player David Stone is looking to visit Texas soon this spring. The Oklahoma native is at IMG Academy and nearly swung by Austin on Friday, but he was not able to make that work. Nonetheless, one of the top players in the next year's recruiting cycle is expected to be on the 40 Acres soon.
2024 Texas commit Jaden Allen was very impressive at WR today -- even earning WR MVP honors. Allen is a great athlete that can play all over the field, something that was very evident on Sunday.
