After really reflecting on how great these past two seasons have been (by reflecting I mean drinking bourbon and watching highlights), I started thinking about the ‘98 season. I was fortunate that my freshman year at UT was Mack’s first, and it lead to two of my favorite memories rooting for this team.

My first OU game was that year. It also happened to be the Ricky 37 game. Don’t know if anyone truly realized the magnitude of that game at that time, but every time I see a highlight from that game, it sends me back. It speaks magnitudes of the character of those two greats that they connected as quickly and easily as they did.

The second was buying my father a student ticket to the A&M game. Screaming next to him during that run, while surrounded by 18-20 year olds was mind boggling. My pops was always a serious person, so to see him act like a teenager at that moment was barrier breaking for our relationship. By the end of the game we were sharing a boot flask. As he’s gotten older, that is one of the core memories he brings up often.

As maddening and frustrating it can be rooting for Texas, I wouldn’t trade it for another school. It makes these great times so much better. Happy holidays everyone and hook em!
