Last year our 4 conference losses were OU, TCU, Baylor and Iowa State. So far, this year, we have lost to OU and TCU, we beat Baylor, but we still have to play Iowa State. There is a good chance we will improve by 1 or 2 games. Can we agree on the following facts?
1. We lost the spring practice which is especially tough since we have a new OC and DC.
2. Our two losses were close and more of a function of player errors than bad coaching.
3. A lot of our offensive problems are a combination of bad passes by SE and bad drops.

So my point is that if you step away from the deep frustration we are feeling because this season is so much less than our expectations, TH has, with the above considerations in mind, done a reasonable job. If SE was playing at the level we expected and if our receivers weren't dropping so many passes, we would have a lot more excitement and confidence in this team and would probably have a better record.

He's still gotta go!

Negative

1. Recruiting is a disaster.
2. His offense is reprehensible.
3. His players are soft.
4. When I look at Herm, I want to puke. He has to go.
5. Next year will be a disaster.

It's Urban Meyer or this program is going to burn to the ground. It's coming.

Bad coaching + social justice + bad team = forest fire

I had to call The Texas Exes and request that they stop sending me solicitations for donations. The solicitations have increased considerably, they are in trouble.

I can only half agree with your #2. This was Ingram’s end of game fumble on the goal line.

Solid counter argument.

I can see where there is room to disagree with #3, but explain why you disagree with #1. I just don't see how one can disagree with that.

It is a factor in improvement, but every other college team had the same obstacle. That makes it an even playing field and not a contributor to our win/loss.
#3 has also been a factor, but that is execution. This again falls into an argument that every other team can make-“if only our line would block better or if we had a better field goal kicker...”

Cannot disagree with anything you said. The fundamental problem is that I have not seen anything from TH to say that the upside is promising - in recruiting or on the field. We would be gambling against the odds if we stayed with him.
His best will be 2-3 loss seasons every year. That is not good enough.

Fair.

Everyone lost spring practice. Not the other teams problem that we didn’t replace inept co ordinators until forced.

True that it wasn’t Herman that fumbled, but it was his dumbassedness that hurried that play along with an exhausted rb

I like the concepts of Tom’s offense. But the tendencies and execution have caused it to be easy to defend for some reason, especially by conference opponents. When we go into “attack” mode, mostly out of desperation, we typically move the football well. But our normal mode of offense tends to let the defense tell us what to do. I think other coaches (especially Patterson) have figured out how to dictate the Texas offense into play-calls, checks, audibles that favor the match-ups they want, instead of us getting the match-ups we want. They just seem to be a step ahead of Tom and have been for four years. That being said, there were plenty of opportunities against WVU and Sam flat out missed them. Also, if I’m an opposing defensive coordinator, I breathe easier if Bijan is on the sideline. He makes you pay for missed assignments and can still get yards if a defense does their job. That run with the spin move and two stiff arms was ALL Bijan. Bounced an inside run to the outside and abused two defenders. To me it’s not just about carries. Him being on the field opens up the entire offense.

If we don't get Urban, then we should retain Herman. I don't like him but most of the guys out there are lateral movements that would waste money. We need money to invest in player salaries.

I mentioned this in another thread, but you have a thought out a nice post here so I'll post in reply.

Tom Herman is not elite. What does he do that is elite? He has a long line of embarrassing moments as the coach at Texas. His teams STILL come out flat, they sputter in huge parts of the game and continually have too many penalties.

Is Herman an elite recruiter?
Is Herman an elite manager of people?
Is Herman an elite scout of elite staff?
Is Herman an elite game day coach?
Is Herman an elite clock manager?
Is Herman an elite media savvy person?

And so on. He does nothing that is elite. He is a 8-9 win coach at a University that shouldn't be satisfied with 8-9 wins.

He has to go.

How would coaches look at Texas Admin if we fire TH after recent DC and OC hirings? When CDC said TH has one chance to rebuild his staff did he actually mean 1 year? How do you think coaches will look at the the time table urgency Texas requires if they are hired?

After the recruiting downfall this year I say he should be fired! Clemson had to replace a OC and theyre fine! tOSU replaced a DC and Mike and theyre fine, fire herman! Just curious if you guys think some coaches would be turned off by what I mentioned above?

Coaches of Meyer’s ilk don’t care. Only someone that has to pick their raisins off the ground would think twice. I don’t want that guy.

I could think of at least 5-7 million reasons why they wouldn’t be turned off. If you catch my drift.
