Looks like the Horns are pretty popular in this realignment game.

Why do so many people fail to understand that any conference arrangement resembling the SWC will not work? The tiny SWC, with its pitifully inadequate media exposure, was the main reason we sucked for nearly a decade and a half after the NCAA lost the power to negotiate TV contracts for the conferences. You cannot have a viable power conference without very large numbers of TV sets in your conference footprint. The chief threat to the Big 12's existence is the fact that it's too much like the SWC -- most of the population is concentrated in one state. The era where that type of arrangement was feasible and stable has been over for more than three decades.

Furthermore, even if money from TV contracts were miraculously immaterial, why on earth would so many Texas fans want to add more Texas schools to power conferences? What sense does it make to create more in-state P5 competition for talent? It's tough enough as it is. Do you think LSU is ever interested in being anything but the only P5 school in Louisiana? Don't you think Ohio State has benefited from being the only show in Ohio? So why upgrade your local recruiting competition?

Keep the existing B12 teams, add Houston and SMU, and move on. If not, then we'll get by with 10 teams. The horse is dying a long, slow death, but it's still breathing.... ;)

Seems to me the worst thing would be adding none P5 texas schools. Brings nothing tv wise, and splits the talent up more.

You just played in the college football playoffs 3 months ago. With a loss on your record. I'd say the conference is doing its job just fine.

I agree that the conference is doing just fine. My comment about the dying horse was meant tongue-in-cheek. Add two teams or not, we'll be competitive with or without them.
