Guys--

My wife and I are coming to the RRR next week. We're Clemson fans but we've wanted to get to this game for a while and our schedule finally matches up, so we're fired up about it!

I've bought tickets off of stubhub, so assuming they get delivered, we're good to go there. We fly in Friday afternoon and will be watching the Clemson/BC game on FRI night, so I guess my biggest questions revolve around SAT morning. What time should we get out there? Drive or uber it? Any other good info y'all can provide?

We'll be pulling for the Horns!

Thanks in advance

Depends on what you want to do. I'd get out there early and walk around the State of TX fair a little bit or tailgate. Just walk on up to any UT tailgate and you'll be welcomed right in.

Lines will be long getting into the stadium so the earlier you get to your seats the more of the game you will get to see.

Traffic and parking is a mess, I'd do uber and just have them drop you off as close as you can get to stadium. Or once you hit stand still traffic get out and walk the rest of the way.

Expect a big crowd bc of the fair, but it's the largest fair in the U.S. so try to enjoy that before or after the game. Lots of good food and things to see.

Wear white. Carry a sidearm concealed. Don't look anyone directly in the eyes. Wear sunglasses.

Think I'm joking?

Thank you! We'll take uber and make sure we get to the stadium early enough to catch the start of the game and then plan to stick around at the fair after the game.

You're going to a state fair in South Oak Cliff. A state fair filled with drunk, emotional people before the game-- and drunk, pissed off people after the game.

You literally would not believe some of the things I've seen happen there.

Fair Park is not considered South Oak Cliff, more of East Dallas. Still there are some bad parts, just like in any city. You'll be fine.

There are actually really nice parts of Oak Cliff, the bishop arts district. Check it out if you haven't been there before. Lots of cool places to eat, mirco brews, and stuff to do. Same with fair park, areas of east dallas are being revitalized.

Be smart, don't walk around in the neighborhoods after dark, and you'll be fine. Most of the houses near fair park let you park in their yard for $$ and they actually take great care of your car. Bc thats how they make their money for a living.

Brain Dead Brewing and Deep Ellum are cool breweries! I went to Dallas last year and had a good time down in that area. Four Corners is cool too but a little further away from the State Fair.

Heck ya! Big fan of those places. Actually had a buddy who worked for Deep Ellum and he would always bring around flats of brews for everybody

Agree. You'll be around a lot of drunk people but that's no different than any game. As far as the neighborhood of Fair Park you'll be fine. People make a mountain out of a molehill over this issue.

I haven't use the DART rail on gameday but other trips to the fair I've had great success there. That may be an option unless they are just completely overwhelmed on gameday.

Cool. Thank you. My guess is that we'll try to use uber in the morning and if that seems like a pain late in the day when we are leaving then maybe DART back downtown.

Be careful on DART bud.....

I use DART rail. As long as you board at least 3 hours before kickoff, it won't be crowded. Wait closer to game time, and you won't be able to board. IMHO - this is the greatest event the State of Texas has to offer - two perennial powerhouses, in a historic (albeit decrepit) stadium, rabid fan bases split down the middle, all in the middle of the State Fair of Texas. Greatness.

And before you fvcking peanut gallery goers start talking about wayward wives and mad husbands..... noooooo....that's not the case.

When I travel to places, even foreign places, I like going down to the crappy sides of the city just to see what it's like. Probly not the smartest thing to do but I do it anyway.

I've been shot at (or in the vicinity of shooting) a few times in my life. Little Havana, Baltimore--- dallas is the only repeat offender.

I've walked through downtown Chicago and grew up in Greenspoint without being shot at. You sir have bad luck!

Life is a little more fun with some risk. Sketchy side of major cities can be fun....

Agreed, but then you talk about them like they are the worst places on earth. Haha.

Yes they can be dangerous, but if you go about seeing and navigating inner-cities in a smart way you'll be perfectly fine.

If you go walking around at night in places were the color of your skin makes you stick out like a sore thumb, you'll probably find yourself in some trouble.

Oh ya---- I am aware-- I like the sore thumb approach...

I've never felt unsafe walking outside the park. I'm sure crime happens but I doubt it's at any higher rate than any other fair, amusement park, or mass gathering of people. Other than the robbery of food prices that is. It's not just Clob's opinion either it seems to be a sentiment on UT message boards as if there is a constant stream of fair patrons being victimized every year. I just wonder if they are aware of news that I am just oblivious to, or just recycling the same rumors.

It's in a poor neighborhood so yeah don't just leave and mindlessly roam the streets, but there are cars, people, other pedestrians everywhere so it's not exactly like you are going to find yourself all alone as soon as you walk out the gate. There will be a crap ton of people there that day you'd have to try to find yourself all alone. Same goes for the Dart rails. It's going to be nothing but fair goers it's not like a deserted subway car.

Even if you want to stay into the night, the alarms don't sound as soon as the sun goes down to get out of Dodge.

Also don't think you can take a gun inside the Cotton Bowl? Or is that allowed now?

Well so have I. But the fair park area isn't that bad unless you go a few blocks south of the fair in those neighborhoods then you better be carrying.

Its a great game to attend, but leave early, roads under construction near the fair grounds,Lots to look at before and after game, don't miss the fried jello, fletchers corn dogs are a must on any visit and look for Big Tex who is the largest in the crowd and he will greet you with a Big Howdy. The Fletchers corn dog stands are near him and he can eat a lot of them.
