Rumor - start checking out Tony Elliot

As head coach?

All the assistants out there and are interested in a RBs coach? Hell I'd rather give the job to our current RB coach.

If he is being considered for the RB coaching position why would we be losing our best assistant coach?

Is Red in the loop? Referees and all... Just sayin. This would be a disaster. How well does he handle cash?

Looks like Texas is about to go 100% all in for corporate sponsorship. See The Moody Center and the public/corporate partnership. The regular fanbase will go away.

He's the OC/RB coach. He calls the plays and coaches Travis Etienne.

Yeah. He sucks.

I like Tony Elliot a lot. If you can’t get an established coach with a track recored He ought to be one of the first guys you consider.
I actually wanted him to come with Urban with the idea of him replacing Urban down the road.

Lieweke and Azoff come from the Hollywood and hockey world. Azoff was the freaking CEO of ticketmaster and then a Hollywood record executive. Lieweke is from Toronto or some such and has dealt with Hockey venues his entire life.

I do find it "funny" that the initial bid for the Moody center was 338 million and now it has ballooned to 388 million. Someone must be bad with math.

Look I mentioned that were on the verge of a breakthrough. We have 3 juniors that could declare for the draft. I would like to see a coach with a strong personality someone who commands instant respect the kind that could make players want to stay. Since we're talking about Tony Elliot if he's that kind of guy I'd feel hopeful. He has 1 helluva resume and it wouldn't bother if he has no hc experience. Do you remember that Stoops didn't have any when he took over?

Chuck part duex. Chuck actually has waaaaay more skins on the wall than this guy. As soon as they tell the donors "no access" because the coach is not comfortable, the officiating falls apart. Funny how this stuff happens. Briles would be perfect because he can relate to the old school donors and is an offensive genius. No need for learning on the job.

I think we gotta stop hiring based on who the donors will be able to get along Witt. The donors got “their guy” 4 years ago and are about to pay 20 million for him to go away. I get thar donors are a part of big time athletics and that’s fine, but there has to be a line. It’s similar to the NFL the most successful teams in the NFL are the ones whose owners hire the right people and get the **** out the way. The owners who aren’t successful are the ones who are involved in everything or try to find the cheapest solution. Texas football has the same problem “the owner” won’t hire the right person and get the **** out the way

By all means, let's do what you say. One thing, the money for the coach will now come from the operating revenue of the athletic department. This way, all of the old school supporters can walk 100% away. Hands washed, not responsible. Don't call when the note comes due.

Rogue boosters are a problem but a strong AD can keep them under control.

Well that’s what it’s going to have to happen to win. So what’s more important to these donors? Winning games and championships or getting their ass kissed by the HC. Look like I said that’s always going to be part of the deal to some extent. But at Texas the priorities have become out of wack where that has been placed above who can actually win in some respects.

you have an AD whose last 3 hires have been

getting Jamie Dixon to leave Pitt and go to TCU

Hiring Mike White to leave Oregon and coach Texas softball- they would of been one of the favorites for the national title. Had there been a season.

Getting a 2 time final 4 coach in Vic Shafer to come coach women’s basketball.

idk the guy seems to have a pretty good handle on how to hire successful coaches perhaps everyone should back away, give him the resources and let him go at it. Just saying

TCU has donors as well. Most of them are in oil and gas, just like ours.

Regardless, the step down from UM to Tony Elliot is a huge one. I would prefer Ash over Elliot. At least he has some head coaching experience. At this point, I will take Tom Herman over Tony Elliot. The step down from Tom Herman to Elliot is large as well. I would like to see Elliot build 2 DII teams from scratch as well as a DI team before being considered by Texas.

TCU has donors as well. But they gave the ball to CDC and let him make the move. The Texas Boosters don’t have a great track recored of making things happen on their own as it relates to Texas athletics.

This ^^^
However accomplished someone has been as an OC, DC, or assistant, the UT animal is too complex for someone to learn on the job. Takes attention away from the football side of the business while learning.

No they didn't. They gave Patterson control.
