Should Gary Johnson be included in the debates?

I just saw a rumor on Twitter that Jeb Bush is going to endorse Gary Johnson next week. If he does, I suspect a number of economic conservatives will jump on board.

It was somewhat surreal to see the Republican party nominee last night borrowing much more from Paul Krugman than Milton Friedman on economic issues. Johnson is a fairly known quantity in conservative economic circles. As is Bill Weld. I suspect a number of stranded conservatives will be comfortable endorsing them either explicitly or implicitly.

Current debate rules are that a candidate has to poll at 15% to be included. But it is sort of a chicken/egg problem since many polls don't even include third party candidates. And without a debate appearance, it is hard to generate much public interest.

The format is designed to cement the Repub and Dem's lock on the system. Generally, most people don't see that as a problem. But I suspect this cycle is much different. Both candidates are generally unpopular. And they don't necessary present a choice for free market adherents.
