T. Boone Pickens.... RIP

Wow, I knew he was 91, but I didn't realize he was in "bad health". I know at 91 it doesn't take much to be in "bad health" but I hadn't hear so much as of a peep. He did a lot of good for OSU, but for others as well.

Mike Grundy is probably not sad. Like him or not you’ve got to respect what he brought to college football, O&G etc.

I disagree with the above comments. I had utter contempt for this man TBP. No tears of sadness he doesn't deserve it not from me.

He was a corporate raider in the 80's. People like TBP, Michael Milliken, Ken Lay, and his bunch took over these companies and put a lot of people out of work people who were innocent and didn't deserve it.

Then there was the childish things like Swift Boat against Kerry, and going on about Clinton's sex life when he was hardly a monogamous husband. He was married 5x for a reason.

He did moderate his views toward the end of his life.

But then there was Prop 10 in CA in 2008 when TBP tried to corner the alternative fuel market in CA

This doesn't have anything with my feelings about the man but he spent all that money on OSU athletics but nothing on the school. Or was he finally shamed into giving to the University?

Basically I had a lot of resentments towards the corporate raiders in the 80's. The 80's had been described as the era of greed and decadence and those people had a lot to do with that.

My man, I see where you're coming from. But please understand-- I love my university, I bleed burnt orange, but our university has been given millions of dollars by corporate raiders-- men that acquiesced to the CIA to allow us to be tracked by the NSA-- oil barons-- the list goes on. The Bass family- Red McCombs-- Michael Dell-- Exxon-- Chevron--

Our university has faculty members with the highest of security clearance inside the government. We are an incredible research university-- but we have been party to, and the benefactor of, some really fvcked up sh!t, as well as some pretty shady alumni.

Once you reach the billion dollar threshold-- you get a relationship with the GOV whether you want one or not. TBP was part of that group.

Just think how obscure the university in Stillwater would be without the donations to athletics made by TBP...the only reason people know that university outside of OK is because of the athletic program. Other programs within the university have grown because people recognize the athletic programs. I believe and will always believe that athletics is the front door to your university. TBP made that front door as nice as anyone's in the country.

He gave OSU around $700 million, evenly split between academics and Athletics, and he also gave $200 million to UT MD Anderson

He donated more to the academic side than the athletic side of OSU. Over the years it was 569 Million dollars.

In 2007 they did a profile of him with Bernie Goldberg. They talked about all the money he had given to OSU athletics. But he said he didn't give as much to academics. The man made it clear that academics wasn't as important to him. But apparently he changed for the better which I'm sure will benefit OSU.
