You know ABC/ESPN pretty much dominate college fb coverage now, all Fox/FS1 pretty much get are the crumbs. But you know even with their first team announcing duo which is supposed to have first rate production values, I think Chris Fowler or Brad Nessler are mediocre at play by play. Their analysts, Blackledge, and Herbstreit carry them. And when they've had really great games to call they didn't grab my attention especially Fowler. I've seen the "b" team announcers when they've had some great games to call do far better.
People complained about how the RRR, and for that matter the OK/tOSU game are going to be on Fox/FS1 this year. But I say great. People imo, Gus Johnson/Joel Klatt are by far and away the best announcing duo in college fb. And if this year's RRR is as exciting as last year's you will notice it to. GJ gets your attention he can make two 85 year old men playing checkers sound like the most exciting thing he's ever seen. And Johnson and Klatt are the only people on tv who have spoken up for the Big XII.
The second best duo is Sean McDonough/Chris Spielman, the only non qb among the analysts. I can tell Spielman has a real love for college fb most of college fb people are guys who are feeling sorry for themselves because they didn't get an NFL gig.
For me the three best play by play in order are: Gus Johnson, Sean McDonough, and Dave Pasch.
The best analysts in order are: Todd Blackledge, Chris Spielman, and I put Joel Klatt and Herbstreit in a tie for third.
Lastly, the fun part. Who's the hottest sideline reporter in college fb?
Well if Fox/FS1 can claim number one on anything in college fb it's the best trio because they don't get any prettier than Molly McGrath. Heather Cox is a tall and pretty redhead with curves in the right places. She's also a former vb AA say I gotta say that for her. But she doesn't ask the greatest questions or make observations that get my attention. No one notices because she's next to Fowler who is so lousy. Obviously I'm not a CF fan.
Actually the best one as far as interviewing goes is Holly Rowe. She makes some good points and I've watched her make the coach and stop and answer her questions when she's interviewing them. I watched her do that very thing when she interviewed Mack and Pete Carroll during the championship game a few years back. They tried to give out some cliches and she wouldn't have any of it. And personally I admire her tremendously for her courageous battle with cancer. And notice how the coaches always address her by her first name they don't do that for any other sideline reporter.
