Texas A&M has hired Jim Schlossnagle after 18 years at TCU.

This is a massive hire for @aggiebaseball. Schlossnagle carried #TCU to five College World Series, including four in a row from 2014-2017.
Some of the assistant names I’m hearing on this one are as good as it gets, too. Stay tuned.

What direction does @TCU_Baseball go? The smart move right now would be to go with Kirk Saarloos, but multiple sources tell me #TCU will go through a full search to replace Schlossnagle. I’ll have a candidates list in the morning. #GoFrogs

One ramification of A&M’s decision, along with LSU focusing elsewhere for the time being, is that @Vol_Baseball will almost certainly hold on to Tony Vitello. That’s awesome news for the #Vols, and frankly, I think it’s good for the #SEC as well to have another strong program.

From May 24:

“I have no interest in any other job,” Schlossnagle told the Star-Telegram.

Texas A&M hires TCU's James Schlossnagle as new baseball coach

BY JEFF TARPLEY June 9, 2021

Kendall Rogers with D1 Baseball tweeted tonight that Texas A&M found its new head baseball via highly regarded TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle. He has reportedly been a target of the Aggies dating back to the winter and will reportedly be made one of the highest paid baseball coaches in the country by the revenue rich A&M athletic department.

Schlossnagle has gone to the College World Series five times and he has won a number of individual awards for his accomplishments. In the fall of 2012, USA Baseball tabbed him the 2013 Collegiate National Team head coach. It marked his second stint with the national team as he served as an assistant coach in 2006. He has been named the National Coach of the Year twice, earning the honor from the NCBWA in 2010, as well as being selected by Baseball America as the 2016 National Coach of the Year.

The 2010 squad became the first team to make it to Omaha, winning a home regional and dispatching No. 2 Texas in a Super Regional. In 2014, TCU earned its first-ever national seed and hosted both the NCAA Fort Worth Regional and the NCAA Fort Worth Super Regional. The 2015 and 2017 squads followed a similar path, both resulting in an appearance in the College World Series. In 2016, TCU won its second-ever road NCAA Super Regional, topping Texas A&M to advance to the CWS. TCU is one of just three programs nationally to have appeared in five of the last 10 College World Series.

TCU opened the season as the No. 1 team in the nation in 2017. The return of the majority of the roster from the 2016 CWS team led to the unanimous preseason ranking and the Frogs eventually won the regular season Big 12 Championship, earned a No. 6 National Seed, and garnered a fourth straight trip to the College World Series. They also recorded the program’s third 50-win season. TCU posted a 50-18 overall record and a 16-8 mark in Big 12 play. At the conclusion of the season, the Frogs were ranked No. 4.

Evan Skoug and Jared Janczak highlighted the multitude of award winning performances for that team. Skoug was named Big 12 Co-Player of the Year and joined Janczak on multiple All-America teams. TCU had 10 players earn Big 12 honors with six Horned Frogs being drafted and two others signing as free agents.

Prior to coming to TCU, Schlossnagle spent two years as head coach of the UNLV baseball program. In just two seasons, the Rebels owned a .621 winning percentage. He served an eight-year stint at Tulane as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Green Wave. Schlossnagle joined the Tulane program in August of 1993 and was an integral part of the Green Wave’s success, helping Tulane to six NCAA Regional appearances during his tenure. Schlossnagle served as the Green Wave recruiting coordinator for the last five years and garnered three nationally ranked recruiting classes which helped produce two 48-win seasons and a number one NCAA Regional seed

Schlossnagle served as the pitching coach at Clemson in 1993 before his time at Tulane. The Tigers finished that campaign with a 45-20 record, an Atlantic Coast Conference championship, and a third place finish in the NCAA Midwest Regional. Seven members of the `93 Clemson pitching staff were drafted into professional baseball.

He also spent three seasons as an assistant at Elon (N.C.) College where he helped lead his alma mater to a 99-41 record, two South Atlantic Conference Championships, a District 26 title and an Area 7 Regional appearance. A native of Hagerstown, Md., Schlossnagle was a pitcher on the 1989 Elon squad that finished 39-7 and appeared in the NAIA World Series. He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1992 and earned a master’s of education in human performance and health promotion from the University of New Orleans in 1995.

Texas A&M to hire TCU's Jim Schlossnagle as head baseball coach

According to reports from Ryan Brauninger of TexAgs and Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.com, Jim Schlossnagle is set to be hired as the next head baseball coach at Texas A&M, coming to Aggieland after 17 years as the head coach at TCU. In 19 seasons as a head coach, Schlossnagle has compiled an 811-393 (.674) record and been to the College World Series five times. An official announcement is expected to come on Wednesday morning.

Schlossnagle takes over a Texas A&M program that many believe should contend annually among the top teams in college baseball. The Aggies were 29-27 in 2021 and missed the postseason for the first time in 13 years. He becomes just the fourth head coach at Texas A&M since Tom Chandler was hired in 1959, with each coach in that time winning over 600 games during their tenures in Maroon & White.

The hiring is Director of Athletics Ross Bjork's first hire in a major sport since assuming his role in 2019.

In 2021, Schlossnagle’s Horned Frogs put together a 41-19 season that included a Big 12 Tournament championship and the No. 6 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, TCU was upended in the Fort Worth Regional, going 1-2 with losses to Dallas Baptist and Oregon State.

Prior to his arrival in Fort Worth in 2004, TCU had never been to the CWS. Schlossnagle transformed TCU into a perennial national power, winning 734 games, claiming 18 conference championships, appearing in 15 NCAA Tournaments...

Prior to his arrival in Fort Worth in 2004, TCU had never been to the CWS. Schlossnagle transformed TCU into a perennial national power, winning 734 games, claiming 18 conference championships, appearing in 15 NCAA Tournaments and advancing to Omaha five times, including four straight trips from 2014-17.

Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park will not be unfamiliar territory for Schlossnagle. From 2015-17, his Horned Frogs ended Texas A&M's season each year, twice in three-game Super Regionals (’15 & ‘16) and once in the CWS ('17). The Frogs also won the 2012 College Station regional as members of the Mountain West Conference.

Schlossnagle has twice been honored as the nation's top coach in 2010 & 2016 and served as USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team head coach in 2013.

Since arriving in Fort Worth, 73 Schlossnagle products have been drafted and signed by Major League franchises, including Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta (2005) and silver slugger Matt Carpenter (2009). In 2014, pitcher Brandon Finnegan became the first player to play in the World Series and College World Series in the same year.

Before TCU, Schlossnagle served as UNLV's head coach from 2002-03, putting together a 37-23 record and taking the Rebels to the Tempe Regional final in 2003.

Schlossnagle's coaching career began as an assistant coach for his alma mater Elon College from 1990-92 before he spent a year at Clemson as the Tigers' pitching coach in 1993. That year, seven Clemson pitchers were drafted after a 45-20 season in which the Tigers won the ACC Tournament crown.

Rick Jones brought Schlossnagle to Tulane in 1994, where he spent eight seasons as the Green Wave's associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. During his stint at Tulane, the program went to six NCAA Tournaments, and in 2001, the Green Wave won a nation-leading 55 games and advanced to Omaha.

Schlossnagle pitched on Elon's 1989 NAIA national championship team before graduating magnum cum laude in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. He then earned a master's of education in human performance and health promotion from the University of New Orleans in 1995.

The Jim Schlossnagle era in Aggieland will officially begin when the Maroon & White open the 2022 season in mid-February.

One of three thoughts:
1) it may help UT recruiting.
or
2) It may help Dallas Baptist recruiting.
or
3) Wonder if the Dallas Baptist coach will be a candidate for the TCU position?
