Teaching your son self defense

Sad but true. The kid looked like an elementary boy. My blood is boiling

That really pisses me off! Damn right there is a double standard. And this WOULD be national news if the roles were reversed. So fed up with it!

Better yet, don't send your kids to public school. Once they're 18, size no longer matters.

My boy is 2 and I’m already starting basic wrestling and BJJ with him. He has his own bag as well. Combat sports will be a big part of his life. My 3 daughters know basic combos and basic takedowns as well. Need to work with them more. Fighting can be good for kids when one on one and both parties are willing. Also, kids that grow up training and fighting realize that 99% of “issues” are not worth it. That was difficult to watch because only one kid was engaged in the fight. Aggressor needs a good ass whipping.

Damn! Kid could've broke his neck.
I will say friends and I were in plenty of fights through Jr High to High School. Back then 90's sometimes it was about race sometimes it was about neighborhoods/areas. Basically stupid stuff.

Now there's so many MMA gyms it shouldn't be a problem learning self defense. I went through some karate and boxing just to be better than the average kid.

Had a family friend that was an ODA in Nam and when I was a kid he taught me a hold called shime-waza. You could choke anybody out in no time flat. You might catch one on the way in, but once you locked in, it was over.

Today yes I agree. First thingnon the news would be white kid beats up black kid even if race had nothing to do with it.

First time I ever choked a guy to sleep in a BJJ tournament was with a variation of that. I chase it all the time in the gi. I have a pic of it somewhere.

Don’t limit it to boys. My youngest daughter was a Taekwando instructor while in HS. She testing for her next black belt level soon.

Oh no doubt-- it just seems that fights (in teens) are more often with boys-- or roving bands of chumps/thugs/d-bags vs a single boy.
But ya, by all means, teach your daughter how to gut someone like a fish.

I just can’t imagine being that boy’s parents and seeing that video. I am assuming the big kid has been disciplined in some way since the video is out there

I wouldn't count on that. Principals are mostly Democrats these days.

At my school, the girls throw hands as much as the boys.

I pretty much took on all comers as my dad would kick my ass if I let someone bully me. Remember the “you know how to deal with a bully” talk? One time though I picked the wrong fight but was prepared to take my beating. Big dude. He was mean. So thankful that my friends were able to talk him down. Instead we hung out and smoked a fat one while listening to Rush 2112. Still good friends to this day.

My everyday carry. I use it for work a lot. Contemplating a full auto for self defense. Benchmade auto-assist. I use in left hand although I am right-handed. Kids can't take this to school but when they are out, it's good to learn to use one of these.

Made many a best friend after a good fight. Days are different today though.

Maybe it’s wrong by some, but I feel like every human being should have some basic training on self defense, and know how to
Use their hands (body). My Dad taught my older brother and I how to use our hands, we had boxing gloves in the garage to spar and learn how to defend and move your body. Served me well. Biggest thing I remember from those lessons was self control, and also to help those from being bullied. That and “finish it”!

My experience with the bully’s of the world, usually a shot to the nose and a solid ass-whooping will set them straight.

I am a little out of touch. I have never heard “throw hands”.
Well..... you get the gist of it......ya?

Like slinging meat. But hands...... at each other.

I used to call it a "touch up". I think I stole that from Gregory Hines in "Deal of the Century" when he unleashes a flamethrower on that dudes car.

Yes. I did understand. I have just never heard that saying.

The only pig stick you'll ever need.

One day I’ll tell you guys the story of the night I punched out an off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy while walking two ladies to their car… three hits, him hittin’ me (sucker punch), me hittin’ him, him hittin’ the pavement (out cold). My brief Kempo training ten years earlier came in handy that night. 🥷
