Basically, because the political cost of firing Strong was too great we're left with something that looks like this, something worse.

Remember how I said a parting of ways was best? That's because Strong is bad for Texas and Texas is definitely bad for Strong. I knew it would be bad but not THIS bad.
What an absolute embarrassment. The best course now, imo, is to probably part ways with Strong and shame the people who f***ed this last week up.
I'm really confused if this fits into what the truth is. Full disclosure for anyone who hasn't read my posts, but I am someone who has been a supporter for Coach Strong, but who also said at the time of his hiring that year 3 would be a key year, and if it didn't go well, then it would be time to figure out what was next, and if it went well enough, that year 4 would be the year we should be in the mix for at least a conference championship. I actually think that all would have gone just fine if some of the other circumstances around the program were different, but they aren't, so yes, I was looking at 2016 as a strict but fair do-or-die season for him.
But... even if I weren't... even if I thought it was time for a change, I would be against the kind of sabotage that is being suggested above. If I wanted Coach Strong gone, but realized that it probably wouldn't happen this year, my next thought would be... how can I set up the next guy to succeed at least? I mean, there's real me who honestly has no clue who that "next guy" would be at the moment... I'm not one of the Texas fans who think that money and Austin will draw EVERYONE in to the table since some have nice cozy career situations, or are coaching for their alma mater, or... well, to be frank, some probably can see that this kind of BS goes on here right now. But let's say I did have a guy in mind to be the next coach, and I was done with Coach Strong, and I was annoyed that everyone else didn't see it my way because in other things I'm used to getting my way...
Ok. I want this year's recruiting class to be as good at it can possibly be. I want the program, the athletic department, and the administration to look as functional as it can. I want to prevent current players from being tempted to transfer. I've seen what can happen when a new guy comes into a program with a bunch of good players in place already. And I've seen what can happen when a program makes a mess of their image and their recruiting and then hopes that a new guy can come in with little to work with and be expected to make a masterpiece.
I kind of wish I could somehow blame this on Rick Perry. He's an aggie. He appointed our BOR members. He could be behind a plot to make sure that UT football stays at least worse than his aggies (which would be an ongoing job, clearly). But if the information above is true, it is probably guys who are on "our side" who are making things worse.
I really hope that this isn't the case.
