Win. No matter what it takes, win the game. Lucas needs to step on the mound and be locked in from the get go. The batters need to come out and be aggressive against a pitcher that is 1-8 and sports a 8+ ERA. Coach Pierce has already said that Tristan Stevens only pitched one inning yesterday because they look to use him again today. This is a Kansas squad that legitimately has nothing to play for. They are not making the NCAA tourney as an at-large team, they are eliminated from the Big 12 Tourney and after the final out occurs on Saturday, their season is over. They have to travel back to Lawrence and do whatever it is Jayhawks do during the summer (I assume count the days down until basketball season starts).
This Kansas series is doing Texas no favors in the RPI (down to 21 as of this morning), but what really matters is that Texas finishes out the season on a 5 game winning streak going into the Big 12 Tourney where even Coach Pierce admits, they have to make a run. I love the confidence that Hansen has about Texas hosting, but unless the Horns win at a minimum two games, I think the committee is going to see it much differently than him.
One. One Win, One Home Run. Texas needs to get a win tonight to win the series, but Ivan Melendez needs just one HR to tie the Texas season record of 28 (currently held by Kyle Russell). For those keeping track, he also needs just 4 HRs to tie the modern era season record of 31 held by Kris Bryant, yes that MLB All-Star Kris Bryant. I hope he gets 2 HRs tonight so that he can finally receive the recognition he deserves as the best damn hitter ever to wear Burnt Orange.
