Texas Football

How long to is it to where its long enough?
Years...

Seriously, programs don't turn around overnight and changing coaches every 2-3 years does not help. Gotta give a coach a good 5 years before making a major decision, unless things just clearly aren't working out (ala chad Morris at Arky).

Also, realize this season isn't lost. Heck, this season could end with even better overall results compared to last year. Big12 champs and another sugar bowl are still in play if we win out. I'm not saying we will, I think a 2-1 finish is most likely but we could go 3-0 and then win the BIg12 CG against OU.

There were some big time holes when Mack was shown the door. Strong was starting to recruit at a high level but his style made for a very small class when Herman was brought in. We now have depth at quite a few positions but its going to take another year or 2 to get CFP depth on campus.

My biggest concern is mistakes. 108th in penalty yards per game, 53 tackles for loss allowed, 25 sacks allowed. Even still we are 20th in total offense. Now don't even get me started on the missed tackles and our 109th ranked defense. I know we don't have a down lineman who can get pressure on the QB. I know we can't get pressure with 4 guys so we have to bring all of these exotic blitz packages. What I do know is that attention to detail isn't there. We now have the athletes on both sides of the ball to make plays. Its the coaches job to make sure they are in position to make plays. That hasn't been happening. Herman needs to take more ownership than he has.

That being said I don't know if a DC coaching change will make a difference. We need a 3 tech who can get pressure up the middle and an edge rush guy. Until that happens its going to be tough sledding in this conference.

always 2 more yrs! his depth chart is all injured, so ya can't count them as they are dead players, so really he never made plans for this situation, he walks 3 quarters on the side line and t,I think his ass should have had the clipboard hen 4th quater hits, we behind, he decides to pick up a clip board and pretend to be in the game, he should have had it all along watching the plays unfold..snapping that gum doesn't won games..

You vastly understated how bad what Strong left Herman is his last class (2017), and it had nothing to do with his style. Strong had only secured five commits by December of 2017 when Herman took over. That is less than two months to signing day. It was because the program was literally at it's lowest point in it's entire history, not Strong's style. And he was not recruiting at a "high' level before that.

Also, I think saying Texas "has the 109th ranked defense" is misleading. Using total defense as your statistical source is a waste of time in modern football, especially in the Big 12 conference.

Texas actually ranks #65 in defensive efficiency. That is middle of the pack in D1. That is not good, and Texas should be much better but considering they are dealing with an anomaly of injuries in the most depth ridden portions of our defense it is not surprising.

If the 2005 Longhorn team would have lost 6 or 7 defensive starters to injury would they still have won the national championship? Would they have even won the conference? How many games would they have lost?

Fact is that team also had lady luck on their side with almost ZERO injuries to any starters on either side of the ball the entire year.

Now, in our 2019 scenario you already have a roster with weak depth due to recruiting and attrition problems from multiple coaches being fired, particular at LB and DB, and then have 7 LB's and DB's go down.

Agreed. We need two burners on the edge and a 3 tech that can JJ Watt his way up the middle and force the QB into moving his feet and get him off his rhythm.

Defensive rankings have always puzzled me. Bottom line is, I don't give a fvck how many yards you give up. I don't care what your third down conversion rates are. I don't care how many first downs you give up.

Points are where it's at. How many points do you give up in a game. We give up 30.7 a game. 30.7 points a freaking game. That ranks us at number 89.

89 sucks ass. Period.

We've got one on the roster RIGHT NOW but is playing MIDDLE FREAKING LINEBACKER because our depth is so bad at that position
