Texas in negotiations with Alabama for home-and-home series

Gonna start season getting our ass overhauled, SEC won't let us play Aggys but play Bama, what's wrong with this picture? Be a hell of a warm up for Alabama. Rather play Aggys.

A real dumb idea. Right now we can’t be beat Maryland, so let’s schedule bama! I know it’ll be atleast 4 years out possibly way more. But we already have Michigan, Ohio state, LSU. No sense in making every year against a top tier opponent OOC. This will be two losses.

LSU is in a very similar place as we are right now... it’s not like Michigan has been unbeatable... chalking those up as automatic losses without knowing whst either team looks like at the time the game is being played is rather dumb

I’ve been critical of Tom Herman as much as anyone but with the recruiting class he’s brought in if he can win 8-9 games this year, and bring in another stud class he’s gonna have up sitting pretty good going in to 2019-2020. Can he do that? We will see.

I only said bama is 2 automatic losses, and that the other Games are tough opponents. Go back and read genius.

Why is Bama an automatic loss? It’s very likely the players that play in that game are currently in 8th grade(maybe younger) is Saban even going to be the coach? If not what does bama look like post Saban? Where does Herman have Texas 4-5 years from now? Way way to many unknowns to make that sort of blanket assessment

  1. Why do you think that it’s an automatic loss?
If you look back the past 8 years, our out of conference record is very bad, we honestly have not beat anyone that finished in the top 20. We’ve also lost to bad or weak teams like home and home to BYU (badly) and Cal, ole miss bad UCLA team and even worse, Maryland at home. Any team with a pulse we lost too. I know some of you said we are recruiting well now... we did with Mack and strong and still weren’t winning these games. I like Herman. Hope he can get us back on track but Based on the 8 year body of work, nothing suggests we will be competitive based on good recruiting against the best program in college football. As for where bama will be, I think saban in there in 6 years, after that I bet it’s Dabo. I think bama will be a top 10 or better program for quite some time. I have no problem playing them in the playoffs(if we can get there) because we would be equal footing, but during the season I think it’s a bad idea.

Strong and Barnes are doing better than we are, make's you wonder, maybe the Regents we're over their heads, they could beat what we have now

Strong and Barnes both needed to go. Neither were meeting expectations and their firings were justified. I liked the Shaka hire at the time, but that has turned out to be another bad decision. I like both hires of Herman and Pierce, but the jury is still out on them after just one season. Too many people are impatient and want results immediately. New coaches need time to come in and fix the things that were wrong under their predecessors and it takes time to implement their system as well. I think both Herman and Pierce will win big at Texas.

Ok but we’re looking forward not back. If we did that all the time we wouldn’t have been successful at any point. The reason Mack was hired was due to lack of success at some point. I’m sure people were probably thinking that was a mistake as well. We don’t know how we’ll fair against Alabama in a few years just like when we scheduled Ohio State. Things change with programs the problem is we have impatient fans why? Because you were used to the 10 win seasons. We’ll get back there but we have to move forward and not worry about the past 8yrs those two coaches are gone. Different era!

Also any fan that thinks it’s a bad idea because we’re not ready for a big boy team like Alabama forgets we are a equivalent to a big boy school. Did anyone have an issue with scheduling Notre Dame? No? Why?

Barnes is a very good coach. It was just time for a change for both sides. I think Strong is a better coach than he showed here. It just didn’t work out for a number of reasons.

Well they are winning and we aren't

Strong inherited an 11-2 team returning its star QB and all other important starters. They were expected to win the AAC and play in an NY6 bowl. Let's see how he does in the next couple of years.

It's been one season for Herman. One.

Back in 2000, a certain NFL franchise fired a coach after going 27-21 over three seasons. The new hire came in and went 5-11 in his first year. Time to fire him, right? Big mistake to hire him? Well that would be Bill Belichick and the Patriots.

Maybe, just maybe, a shred of patience might pay off.

That’s not totally true. Barnes won a lot here. Just got to a point where both sides needed a new start.

Strong wasn't winning here and Barnes took us as far as he could and finally ran out.

Then there must be something wrong with the front office, they won before they got here and won after. Strange!

Hook'em

It's possible that it could be the front office but we now have someone so let's see where it takes us. Strong had 3 seasons of losing he can't blame all of that on the front office though I mean we lost to freakin Kansas. Barnes did great and I have much respect for him taking our basketball program as far as he did but just like anything it was time for a change. Same with Mack same with Augie it's time for us to keep chugging a long and it will get better.

I think the lack of long term leadership in the AD’s office has been an issue that has hopefully been fixed. Patterson was a blunder, Perrin although he did an admirable job everyone knew he was a stop gap solution. Now that Del Conte is in place hopefully that will cure some of the leadership issues within the department.

Probably looks like Dabo Swinney will be the guy post Saban.

If I thought the last 8 years were where we are going to be forever I would quit watching. That is NOT who we are nor who we will be. We happened upon a tired coach who had a lame duck AD. Those days are over. We will be back and I dont give a shit who we play.I dont think of us having to play Bama....I think of them having to play us, and God help em!

LOL, Strong took over an 11 win team and won 10. Herman took over a 5 win team and won 7. Tap the breaks there chief.

Barnes had to go man. He is a terrific coach, but the program became stagnant as did Barnes. I'm not surprised he is doing well with a recharge of batteries. Barnes' last 4 years at Texas was mediocre at best.

Who cares what else you said? Saying those two are automatic losses is stupid enough. And you have the nerve to sarcastically call someone else "genius"? Wow. Just wow.

This all coming from the guy who kept claiming strong would run stoops out of town and that strong was the greatest hire and so on. How did that work out?

Yeah I was wrong about Strong. And?
At least I have the minimum amount of common sense required to know that we have no clue what the college football landscape is going to look like in 5 to 7 years. Go lick a window.
