Texas picked 5th in conference by media

Also have Baylor at 4. They could end up being really good again or really bad. Who knows. Wvu and KSU come in at 7th and 8th

Yes, I think Texas will finish below OU, OSU and TCU...at the minimum. 5th is reasonable and would likely mean a 5-4 conference record.

So exactly how does the new Big12 title game work?
For example, if three teams are 8-1, all beating eachother in a circle? Which two teams play? It starts in '17, right?

I picked Texas 3rd. I picked two schools to finish ahead of Texas from Okie, Okie lite, and TCU. I think Texas finishes ahead of one of them.

I think Texas is going to be salty by the end of the season. That means TCU is prime for a butt kicking.

Spur....I have to scratch my head when a service picks Texas to beat OU and ND, but lose to Tech....Not saying I disagree, but that is some kind of strange.

Interesting. Is this about where y'all thought you would be going into the season?

I think it's reasonable. With most preseason rankings, it is almost better to look at things in tiers. There is usually a clear top tier (OU, TCU, OK St.) in this case, and clear bottom tier K St, Iowa st., Kansas and then a jumbled group in the middle.

I think Texas will end up at the top of that middle tier (Baylor is a big question mark - could be really good again or could fall apart) with a chance to move into the top 3 depending on how things play out. This would mean a regular season finish between 7-5 and 9-3.

I think TCU is a huge question mark without Boykin and Dotson. That is so much of their offense that is gone. I could see them anywhere from 2nd to 6th. BU will depend a lot on injuries. Depth is going to be an issue for them even this year. Yea freshman don't generally play, but they do play when they lose starters.

Kind of amazing what a wild card Baylor is in the preseason. Picked up my first CF preseason mag today. Sporting News. Had Baylor No. 5 after Ala., Clemson, OU and Ohio State. Horns at 24 and TCU 25. No one knows what the commotion and possible lack of depth will bring. Weak schedule to start. Still lots of talent. Maybe the OSU Baylor game early will give us a clue.

Suspect most were written after spring ball and printed in China 6-8 weeks ago.

Must be the Phil Steele mag.

Mr. Steele has Texas as the dark horse to win the conference. At least the short bus appears to be headed in the right direction.

I believe he releases an "updated" version on his website. He takes account for injuries, transfers, & in this case Baylor imploding. Not sure when he does it, but it is pretty good because it takes in account everything that has happened since spring when mags are all finished.

I think at the top OU is clearly number 1, and KSU, ISU, and KU are clearly the bottom three. Between that you can make any argument.
Texas doesn't have a proven QB, and our D line was Swiss cheese last year.
OSU was the luckiest team I've seen in a while last year. Their record is not an indication of how good they were compared to the rest of the confernece.
Tech has the worst D of all time. They will live and die by scoring 45+ points a game.
Baylor lost their HC and is going to be paper thin on the depth chart.
I'm not just handing Kenneth Trill a nod as a top QB in the conference just because he is playing at TCU now. A&M ran a similar offense and he struggled.

Not only was OSU lucky they had a lot of help against Texas. I am not a "blame the refs" guy either...but dang....they stunk that game.

We'll be in stillwater this year......

And we all know how stellar we play in stillwater.....

Yeah, homeboy has real leadership now.

I thought he was exceedingly unimpressive at a&m. They also lost their starting rb and i believe top 2 receivers. Not sure what they lost on defense. So a new qb, new rb, new wr and still take 2nd place? I think tcu struggles next year.

There is no clear cut favorite this preseason. Oklahoma is picked to win the conference but he** they're picked to win every preseason. But they did win the Big XII last year, with the exception of Sterling Shepard their best players are coming back including the qb. They play cougar high and the tOSU in non con play. But as everyone knows the key to their season is Baker Mayfield's mental health. Look, one more concussion and he will have to retire because it would be 3 concussions within one year. And something Ive been thinking about. I mean athlete can hurt another coed and not get get kicked out of school. But if he hurts himself he can't play anymore. My orangeblood brethren think about that.

I think TCU is number 2 because of their success the last two years and because GP is one of the top coaches in the country. But nobody among P5 schools lost more.

I agree with what was said above about Baylor. They could win as many as 9 games or they could have a losing record. But Jim Grobe is off to a bad start.

I have WV as the dark horse.

And I do know one thing about our team. Weve discussed our team in detail. We will not finish fifth we will finish higher.

Ou Is the favorite but I don't think it should be as an overwhelming favorite. Gotta be able to replace Shepard , striker,etc. I could see Texas finishing 2nd or 6th lol.

I like Tech for the darkhorse. They may not play much D, but Mahomes is a helluva QB.

Man, that's an understatement. That defense was as bad as an elite offense is good, giving up 567 points (almost 44 points per game) on the season. They could improve by 10 points per game and still rank 100th or worse nationally.

They could win any given game with that offense, of course, but I don't think a team with a D that terrible stands any chance of having the best overall conference record.

Are you serious?

Jeez, it sure doesn't "feel" like that. Maybe I'm clouded by age and previous poor performances.

I double checked. 2008 with Colt is the last time the home team won that game.

TT's defense was so bad our offense actually scored not one but two td's in the third quarter :)

5th isnt a bad pick, I think they'll finish a bit higher but if you look at their conference schedule and consider the make up of the team it makes some sense

Texas has a brought a lot of talent in the last two classes and they have started to develop depth across board but it's still young talent in a lot of places... it's reasonable to assume that as the season goes on Texas will be better as depth shakes itself out and younger players get more confident and aware of their role

@OSU
OU
ISU
@KSU
Baylor
@Tech
WVU
@KU
TCU

So of the 4 ranked ahead of them, they play 3 in their first 5 conference games. We will know a lot about this Texas team after that game in Stillwater. Texas will be coming off a bye with most likely a 2-1 record. They win that game and they come into the Cotton Bowl with momentum, battle-tested, and not as much pressure to win. If they lose and enter the RRR with a 2-2 record the pressure is going to be on.
