This kid just committed to Notre Dame.

I'm wondering if there is any word down in Texas on what type/level of prospect he is.

We've definitely started to prioritize recruiting Texas more and more, and Davis is the kid our coaches turned to as soon as it was clear we were going to miss on local 5* QB Hunter Johnson

He's Rivals 3* (composite 4*) with below average offers......but our coaches really seem to like him

Any word on him from the Longhorn state?

First time I've seen the name.

He's the QB for Cedar Hill

I think they're the defending 6A State Champs
(though I could be wrong, I know they won recently but it could have been the 2014 season)

He doesn't have offers from most of the Texas schools (Texas, A&M, TCU, Baylor) so it's not that surprising if guys here don't know much about him
(but some of that is likely due to those schools getting other QBs very early on)

Just thought I would see if there was any scuttlebutt about him

Well, could be table scraps left over after everybody got all the good Texas QBs, and ND willing to take a shot just to make establish more Texas ties. Or, could be a diamond in the ruff. Certainly wouldn't be the first Texas 3 star QB to turn into a big time college player. Cedar Hill is a hotbed for D-1 recruits. Part of me wonders if there might be another Cedar Hill player they've got their eye on and trying to get a connection through his QB. Who knows. I think your coach knows what he wants in a QB, and sees something he likes in this one.

Looked a bit more. Kliff Kingsbury and Tom Herman have offered the guy. Those two are pretty good at QB evals.

Davis is a baller. Very similar to Kyler Murray in highschool. He would be ranked a lot higher if injuries hadn't plagued his junior year. He's got wheels, and a good arm. But his pocket presence is God gifted, he can scramble like Manziel and Murray and create plays with his legs while looking to pass. If he can stay healthy he could be top 100. I coach HS ball in Texas at the 6A level, and I've seen this kid up close and personal. Good get for the domers.

Davis really showed up his sophmore year in the playoffs coming in for McMillan and running a pistol variation.

He's a hell of a runner but not real sure about his arm. According to CoachEmUp64 had injuries last year and was slowed.

If he becomes a passing threat he will be big time and recruited by a lot of schools.

Hadn't heard about the injuries. Any idea what they were, generally?

I knew that he had two D1 QBs in the program older than him, which made it hard for him to get a ton of exposure prior to his Junior year.

Decker I suspect that if coachemup says good get....you ought to be doing cartwheels in the street.

Yeah I think coach is much closer to the high school scene than any of us here. I'd take his word for it.

That's really good to know.

ND fans have an immense amount of respect for our QB coach Mike Sanford, and he seems almost inexplicably high on Davis (relative to rankings/offers)

If a Texas 6A high school coach who's respected here is high on him too...that starts to say a lot

Thanks for the info

Some solid thoughts in this thread.

Avery Davis was just added to the Under Armour All-American Game.

Seems like his senior season will be very interesting to watch.

Anybody know his physical stats? Injury plagued usually means "small"...

2017 kid, who was introduced to the stage in the state title game. He will face off with Tate Martell at Jerra land this year.
