TH The QB Evaluator

You like burning ants with magnifying glasses too? Pouring salt on snails?

That was Macks last class correct?

That article basically perfectly explains Mack Brown's fall from grace at Texas. So many stud QBs coming out of the state none played for UT and why he did recruit a highly touted QB with the exception of VY it was almost always a miss. I mean there is a decent chance if he recruits JT Barrett Mack Brown is still the coach at UT or maybe just recently retired this year.

Hank Carter the Lake Travis coach was around for Gilbert, Michael Brewer, Mayfield, and Charlie Brewer (not sure if he was on staff when Todd Reesing was there). The coach was asked to name the best one and he said Gilbert. So that's a strange miss.

We all obviously know how well Gilby worked out for us but make no mistake, that kid killed it in highschool & had burnt orange in his veins. Too bad really, I was rooting for him.

One thing all the elite programs and coaches have in common is they always have a solid QB option.

Urban Meyer went from Alex Smith to Chris Leak to Tim Tebow to Braxton Miller to JT Barrett

Nick Sabah at bama had Parker Wilson, Greg McElroy, AJ McCarron, Blake sims, Jalen Hurts

Some of those guys weren't stars but solid QBs. Texas just hasn't gotten the QB position right enough to be a national power year in and year out to be a contending program. When they have gotten it right with Major, VY and Colt they've been national title contenders. Herman's ability to get the QB position right will dictate his short term success at Texas and his ability to get it right consistently will go a long way in deciding if he's as good long term as many think he will be.

JT Barrett in a Texas uniform coached by end of his career Mack <<<< JT Barrett in an OSU uniform coached by Meyer.

Barrett wasn't going to save Brown. He would have been playing behind a worse line with worse RBs and receivers, and certainly worse coaching. He wouldn't have been the same player.

Not always. There is a gap between Tebow and Miller. That's because Florida started unraveling and Meyer quit. Not that he isn't an elite coach but even elite coaches have to take their medicine.

Uh....awkward question-- time and channel of this "event" on Saturday?

I thought he left UF with Tebow? Was he there another couple years?

He coached the 2010 Gators (post Tebow) and they sucked. Forgot the QBs name but he sucked. He then quit and Florida hired Muschamp.
That's right. He retired and they talked him out of it. Then he walked the next year. Oh well point till remains to be a dominant program every year you have to get the QB position right on a consistent basis. Texas hasn't done that.
