9/8/1932- Patsy Cline is born in the Shenandoah Valley on the border between Virginia and West Virginia. Even though she only recorded 3 albums and died at the age of 30, she’s remembered as one the most successful and acclaimed female voices of the 20th century.

9/7/1936- Charles Holley is born in Lubbock. Though he has gone by age 22, he’s still remembered as one of the true trailblazers of Rock & Roll


9/6/1939- Singer/songwriter David Allen Coe is born in Ohio.


9/3/1942- Beach Boys founding member and guitarist Al Jardine is born in Ohio. Here is him singing lead on a tune.


9/6/1943- Singer/songwriter and bassist for Pink Floyd, Roger Waters is born in England.


9/5/1944- Musician Al Stewart is born in Scotland.


9/2/1946- Keys player Billy Preston is born in Houston. He backed legendary acts such as Little Richard, Ray Charles, The Beatles and Sam Cooke.

9/8/1947- Benjmain Orr, vocalist and bassist for The Cars, is born in Cleveland.


9/7/1951- Singer/songwriter Chrissy Hynde of The Pretenders is born in Akron.


9/7/1953- Keys player Benmont Tench of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers is born in Gainesville.

9/5/1946- Farrokh Bulsara is born in Zanzibar (present day Tanzania). He would go to become one of Rock’s greatest voices and performers.


9/7/1956- Songwriter Diane Warren is born in LA. She has written 80’s and 90’s hit songs like “rhythm of the Night (DeBarge), “Blame it on the rain” (Milli Vanilli), “How do I live” (LeeAnn Rimes), “I dont wanna miss a thing” (Aerosmith) and many others.


9/2/1957- “We Shall Overcome” is played for the 1st time by Pete Seeger at a Folk School’s anniversary in Tennessee. Martin Luther King, Jr. is present. It becomes a part of King’s Civil Rights campaign in his quest for equality.

9/7/1957- Sam Cooke releases his very 1st single, it would nit no. 1 on the U.S R&B charts. You send me.


9/4/1960- Ace guitarist Kim Thayil of Soundgarden is born in Seattle.


9/8/1960- Singer/songwriter Aimee Mann is born in Richmond.


8/5/1964- Eric Burdon & The Animals release “The House Of The Rising Sun”, a song about a brothel in New Orleans.


9/7/1964- NWA founding member and label Executive Eazy-E (Eric Wright) is born in LA.

9/2/1965- The Doors record their first demos in LA at World Pacific Jazz Studios.


9/5/1965- The Rolling Stones release their follow up to their smash single “Satisfaction”. It would top the charts in the U.S , UK, Canada and Germany.


9/3/1968- Donovan’s single “Sunshine Superman” is the no. 1 song in America. Playing guitar on the song is session guitar ace Jimmy Page of the Yardbirds.


9/2/1968- Jimi Hendrix release his cover of Bob Dylan’s “All along the watchtower”, which was only released 9 months earlier. It would be Jimi’s biggest hit of his short career, landing in the top 20 in the U.S and the UK.

9/7/1969 The New Yardbirds make their live debut in Denmark. Afterwards they would do a brief tour of Scandinavia and then record their 1st album, built off their show setlist. A former Yardbirds member issued a cease and desist letter, so the band found a new name… Led Zeppelin.

9/8/1968- The Beatles 1st releases on their Apple Records label “Hey Jude” is performed in front of a tv audience for Frost On Sunday. The 7-minute song was the longest song to ever reach no. on the UK singles charts. It also spent 10 weeks as the no. 1 single in America.


9/4/1969- The film Easy Rider is released starring Peter Fonda, Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper. The soundtrack had song songs from The Band, Steppenwolf, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix and Fraternity of Man. It would reach no. 6 on the U.S. album charts.


9/4/1970- The Rolling Stones release the live album Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out, their final release on Decca before moving to their own label, Rolling Stones Records. It went to no. 1 on the UK album charts and music critic Lester Bangs said “I have no doubt that it’s the best rock concert ever put on record.”


9/6/1971- Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of The Cranberries is born in Ireland.


9/2/1972- Rod Stewart hits no. 1 on the UK singles charts for the 2nd time with “You Wear It Well'.

9/3/1974- Elton John releases the 2ns single off his 8th album Caribou.


9/4/1975- Musician, Mixer and Producer extraordinaire Mark Ronson is born in London.

9/4/1976- The Bee Gee’s hit no. 1 on the U.S. singles charts with “You should be dancing.” Disco mania is about to take over.


Fleetwood Mac’s self-titled 10th album hits no. 1 on the U.S. album charts. It’s the first album with new members Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham.
