Tim Brewster has agreed to join Jimbo

No it ain't. What good is signing a 4* recruit at Texas if he's not a 4* player when it matters most ie.. the Oklahoma game.

Want proof?

Cris Simms emotionally fragile
Brock Edwards I don't even remember him scoring a td.
Roy Williams and the other alleged 4* receivers. Zero td's against OK. Four double digit losses.

And Brewster reminded me of Bobby Jack Wright recruiter but not much of a coach. And he had an annoying, pompous, strut, when he came out on the field.

Ok fire away at me

One last thing I've said it before and I'll say it again. Whatever Jimbo Fisher does at the cow college will have no bearing at Texas. I can name only one player at a&m, Kellen Mond. You know he was the qb when they were ahead 44/10. I mean they couldn't take advantage of Texas during this down cycle of Longhorn fb. And since most of us are writing off Jimbo Fisher's chances of winning a nc at the cow college why are you so worried about Tim Brewster? I'm not

Texas is to big a state to dominate in recruiting. And one last time when it comes to Texas recruiting we need to be more concerned about Lincoln Riley, Mike Gundy, and Gary Paterson. They've won championships, and have dominated Texas in football.

FSU 247 guy reporting that Brewster hasn’t made any decision and expects to get offers from OUsucks, Texas, Alabama, and Florida over the next couple of days

That is wrong, wrong, wrong. When Mack had it rolling he dominated recruiting in Texas. A&M didn't win any head to heads for several years. Hell, when Mack offered a kid I stopped following his recruitment. I hated that sucky feeling of a late Mack offer, that I knew meant he got out commit.

I would be shocked if Fisher/Brewster recruited at prime Mack levels, but it is possible.

Mostly agree with all of that. A&M, Fisher, Brewster...Vince Lombardi don't make a shi_ for Texas. Texas controls it's own fate.

You say Texas is too big of a state to dominate in recruiting, but (knock on wood signing days are still a ways away) Herman is dominating the state right now like maybe no one has ever done except maybe Mack. And this is coming off three consecutive losing seasons. Imagine what his recruiting will look like when Texas is winning 10+...

Herman is already doing it. A&M never will save your breath.

No it's right, right, right. While Mack was doing all this recruiting, Bob Stoops signed two db's in the Austin area who started at OK for four years including their nc season. They also signed an overachieving rb named Quinton Griffin. That was the year we had the number one ranked class. To be fair OK has done a lot of national recruiting in the Stoops era But he did well enough in Texas that Mack did not dominate recruiting in Texas like some people think.

Herman does not have it rolling like prime Mack. He is doing well, but let's see if he ends up with a top 5 class like Mack did year after year.
Stoops retiring and A&M having a lame duck set him up, let's see how he does in 2019.

Well if Texas starts dominating TCU, and OSU like they used to, If we start holding our own again against OK I'll be delighted.

We are all frustrated that the Horns have struggled the last 8 years I know i am. But we've been putting the cart ahead of the horse in recruiting and I'm guilty of that as well. I believe in Coach Herman and I want you to be right.

Mack was an A+ recruiter and a B coach. Stoops was the better coach not doubt, except on signing day.
Quinton Griffin was not about great recruiting, that was evaluation. Not the same thing.

Look, it's pretty simple-

Aggy looks around and fully recognizes that we haven't been our usual self for the last 7-8 years. They've looked to try and capitalize on that and they thought they were on their way during the Manziel era. They felt as though sumlin needed just a few more pieces to make a year in year out conference title contender. But then something happened. The lightening that sumlin caught in the bottle wasn't replicated. He stalled. The recruiting continued going well for them, signing 5 star QB after 5 star QB, but something happened during the Dylan Mack, Kyler Murray, #wrts, swag copter, barber shop, period. Control got away from Sumlin. Murray and his father bullied sumlin and sumlin put up with it, and didn't fight back because it was so important to NOT let Murray come over to Texas, and sumlin put up with his B.S. because if he lost Murray, he'd never hear the end if it. BUT, he sacrificed the respect of his players and some alumni by bowing to Murray.
Then, one by one all the QB commits started bailing. This was the beginning if the end.

Aggy starts looking around and thinking "holy sh!t. We have a down Texas team, a coach that is letting all our talent leave, and WE were unable to capitalize on a perfect situation. Sumlin has to go. He has to go now. Texas is still mired in mediocrity so we need to pay someone WHATEVER THEY WANT to take this job, bury the longhorns in recruiting, and do what sumlin couldn't do."

And here we are. A coach with a $75 million guaranteed contract, a national champion win, and almost zero idea how to recruit in Texas. It's a bold strategy and honestly, there's no way to predict how it turns out for them.

Sorry, I'm not very technologically savvy, but just wanted to to commend clob94 on a very accurate and fair account. Its all a crap shoot.

Well it's official Bama is in over tOSU. tOSU did everything you have to do to get in the playoffs but Bama is in and they're not.

What really pi**es me off is the possibility of an all SEC title game.
Alabama will be a better game against Clemson than Ohio State would be. Ohio State is inconsistent and they played awful in the playoff last year.

I bet it is an ACC champ and a BiG12 runner-up. Committee handled it correctly, they got the 4 best teams. Ohio State needs a QB bad, he sucks vs decent teams.

I was not impressed with JT or the OSU offense last night. OSU has 2 very bad losses on their resume & Alabama lost a respectable rivalry game to Auburn - easy decision.

So by the committees logic, is Georgia one of the 4 best teams in America? They play in the east and outside ND they played nobody all year...

Of course they are saying that. SEC champs. OOC games included ND and rival Georgia Tech. Auburn is very good, they crushed a pretty good Mississippi State. USCE is decent. Kentucky, Missouri, Tennesse, Florida, and Vandy were trash - but they took out the trash as they should have.

Who did you think was more deserving than Georgia? Bitch about Bama, Georgia was a no brainer.

Thats why they need to go to 8 teams. 5 champions and 3 at large. Let the players and coaches have more control,of their own destiny and stop this whole resume and who lost to who stuff.
This would be great because it increases the chance a none P-5 team will get in - maybe a deserving champion from a non P-5 conference.

Get rid of conferences all together and expand to 16 teams. Pay the players. Schedule whoever you want. Or set up Pods and just play round robins. Add the promotion/relegation element to it as well.

#capitalism

Now that is extremely radical and won't ever happen, so I like the 8 team idea. But now, we get a 4 loss conference champ in over a 2 loss P5 school that didn't win their division.

There will always be gripes and problems of course

Yep. We need to stop assuming these non power 5 teams couldn’t play. They’ve proven in bowl games, and some in regular season that they are more than capable. Do I think they’d win it all? No but that’s not really the point. It’s funny big schools don’t think these mid major types belong with them, but a lot of schools won’t schedule them and have no problem poaching their coaches. Kind of an interesting dynamic.

Final thoughts about bowl selection. I thought TCU deserved to be in a P6 bowl game more than WA. I could give good reasons why but I'll leave it at that.

I'm disappointed that once again there will be only one Big XII team in a P6 bowl game but the Big XII needs to take a hard look at its fb teams and their coaches.

Now the Big XII made a lot of strides defensively this year. TX,TCU, and ISU had solid defenses this year and OK"s stepped up in the last month.

But we need some too notch coaches and the Big XII needs them soon. Right now it appears that OK made a solid choice in Riley, and I believe Tom Herman is a winner who's going to bring us back. Compare his first season to Charlie Strong. That says it all. Matt Cunningham has a lot of promise, and I'm not going to write off Matt Rhule just yet. But these guys need to become at least 8 wins a season guys. As far as holdovers go Gary Patterson is still a top ten coach and he shows no signs of slowing down.

But with the current state of Big XII fb it all comes down to the Longhorns. The Big XII needs for Texas to be great again. People who don't like the Horns think that's just typical UT arrogance but it's true. OK is doing their part but we are not. We need for the RRR to have national implications again. Rignt now whenever a Big XII team beats Texas it doesn't mean anything. We need to get back to where we belong. It will change the perception of the Big XII dramatically. And if we get upset by another team it will mean something for that team. There's a group of schools 9 of them to be exact who have been great for more than 50 years. Some of them are dormant right now. Texas is one of them and we've got to change that.

With the disappointment of TT game a lot of people on here are having doubts. But in his first year Coach Herman made some noticeable improvements, significant improvements. We have an outstanding defense. I knew Todd Orlando was a winner and it showed in his first year. I don't know if he's a finalist but if Deshaun Elliot is not on the Thorpe list those voters should be fired on the spot. The entire defense is starting to play like we all knew they were capable of. I don't have any illusions but with the disappointment of the TT game behind us I'm hoping that Holton, Deshaun, Malik, and Charles come back. I hope that Coach Herman had a good heart to heart. But like I said I don't have any illusions. But we're closer than we've been in the last few years and if those guys come back......

I'm going to catch flak for this but I'm not so sure that we should fire Tim Beck at least not just yet. Let our offense have one more year with the same coaching staff they deserve that. All these new coaches having to learn a new system every year It has hurt their development. But I trust Coach Herman will do the right thing. We're playing the show me state in the Houston Bowl. Lets hope we show them that we are on the road back.

We gotta give Herman 5 years to see what he can do. The defense was really good this year, but the offense was terrible. Much of the offensive woes can be assigned to players. However, we need to see improvement on that side of the ball - that’s on the coaches. I’m ok with keeping & evaluationing Beck another year if a stud OC isn’t available now.

No way Herman(or any coach) is gonna get 5 years without showing steady improvement. By year 3(4 at most) if it’s gonna happen you’ll be able to see it.

It doesn’t take 5 years either. Scott Frost took an 0-12 team to 6-6 and then 12-0. Sure that’s an extreme example but If were still sitting at 6-6 or worse next year. Herman is in some trouble. If Jimbo gets off to a good start at A&M that will turn up the heat even further. If there isn’t improvement

I am questioning the 2nd & 3rd order effects if we consistently fire Head Coaches after 3 years. What is the minimum barometer for success after year 3, to remain here?

Even if he shows slight improvement he will get the 5 on his contract. His teams played well against a hard schedule. Gotta get better QB and O line play next year.
