I’m not sure of the context of this quote, whether it is in reference to our good ole USA or human beings in general; nevertheless I think it speaks to the human spirit.
It never ceases to amaze me how some have shown the courage to rise back up when all hope seems lost. Holocaust victims, 911 victims, survivors of natural disasters, and many other sorts of tragedies demonstrate that our spirits can overcome the worst.
We can debate where this internal instinct comes from, our genetic propensity to survive, our Creator’s design to imbed hope in our spirits. I prefer to believe the latter explanation.
As Andy Dufresne said in his letter to Red in the movie The Shawshank Redemption, “hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."
