“It’s unfortunate and I really wish I wouldn’t have to say this, but I really like human beings who have suffered. They’re kinder.” — Emma Thompson
I struggled a bit to post this quote. I wouldn’t want anyone to suffer. However, I do agree that many people who have gone through bad times come out of them being kinder and more empathetic to others, especially those who have suffered the same trial. I’ve seen so many people who have gone through tragedy and decided to start a new program to help others who have gone through a similar event.
Others may go the opposite direction and spiral into a hole of self-pity or worse, take out their frustrations on others.
Having a support system for those coming out of hard situations is key to recovery. One of the hardest things for some is reaching out to find those support programs. Our society has taught us to be strong, pick yourself up and move on. That may work for some, at least temporarily, but most will at some point need help to recover.
If you are going through a rough time or have in the past, I encourage you to look for support. Don’t try to go it alone or suffer in silence. It’s not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of courage and strength to get the help you need.
Take care my friends!
