More Than Enough

How much is enough?

In the USA, we are told to live the American dream one must have a home, a great job, a family, a fat retirement package, etc. There is nothing wrong striving to achieve this dream. However, not everyone will accomplish it. Does this mean for the latter group that they can’t be content and happy?

Our Creator has an answer. A relationship with Him is more than enough to be content and happy. We see this throughout His Word.

I have friends who have more money than they can spend, multiple homes, high end cars, vacations to exotic places…yet, they are miserable. Their marriages and kids are a mess. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with obtaining wealth and things, but they shouldn’t be your primary source of contentment and happiness.

The Apostle Paul is a great example for us. He was once a highly regarded Pharisee. When he met Jesus on the road to Damascus, he became a tentmaker and teacher of “The Way”. He was imprisoned, beaten, persecuted, and threatened repeatedly with death. Yet, he was content.

Paul is quoted as saying… “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Psalms 16:5-11, Philippians 4:19, Philippians 4:12-13, James 1:17
