Source Of Talent
Every now and then I’ll see a story about a gifted child that can play the piano like a professional from an early age, without much if any training and it makes me wonder, how can this happen. My mother taught piano, and I struggled to learn the simplest pieces of music.
I’ve come to believe that we are born with certain gifts/talents from our Creator. It amazes me at times how different those talents can be from one person to another. One example, I cannot learn another language no matter how hard I try, while my wife can speak fluently two languages and can understand many others.
I submit that every ability and gift come from our Creator. Our talents are not random or self-manufactured, they are entrusted to us by a generous and purposeful Creator. Realizing this truth humbles us and motivates us to steward our gifts faithfully, not for self-promotion, but to honor the One who gave them.
God calls us to use them for the benefit and upliftment of others. Serving through our gifts shows the love of Christ in action and becomes a form of worship. Whether it’s through hospitality, encouragement, craftsmanship, or leadership, every act of service glorifies God when done with a willing soul.
The parable of the talents shows that God rewards faithful stewardship that bears fruit. Whether it’s through practice, learning, teaching others, or taking risks in faith, we are expected to grow what we’ve been given. These verses encourage us not to bury our gifts but to invest them in ways that bring increase and blessing, both spiritually and practically.
