The Company You Keep

First, Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads on OB!

The people we hang out with can determine much of our character and what we value.

Growing up, my parents always wanted to meet my friends. My Dad made a point to hang out with me and my friends from time to time. We had a game room and often he would pop in and play a game of pool or ping pong with us. Now I realize he wanted to know the “company I kept”. My friends thought my Dad was “cool” and they were right.

Associating with the wrong crowd can get us into a lot of trouble. Scripture warns us clearly to be careful who we spend time with. Proverbs 1 reveals that those who entice you to do evil will pay a high price. Contrary, fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and will lead you to safety, without fear of harm.

It would be wise to pick your friends carefully.

Father’s Day usually fell on my Dad’s birthday, he would have been 99 years old tomorrow, thank you for teaching me how to be a wise dad…miss you!

Proverbs 1:30-33 & Proverbs 4: 1-27
