“I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.” — Estée Lauder

When I was young, I had many dreams. I wanted to be an astronaut, a pro bowler, a track and field star, and a football star. Then once I graduated college, a successful salesperson. There is nothing wrong with having dreams, they provide motivation, something to shoot for. However, many of us will realize that just dreaming about them doesn’t make them happen.

Sometimes when our dreams are dashed, we give up or turn to distractions, or start to doubt ourselves and our abilities.

What I have learned after talking to successful people over a few decades; the one key factor that is common among them is they have BELIEF in what they are trying to accomplish and another is they don’t listen to the naysayers that may be in their sphere of influence, but rather work hard no matter the obstacles they may face along the way. It took me a couple of decades of failure to reach my original dreams before I found what God called me to do. “Success” in life, doesn’t always happen overnight.

“Success” can mean different things for us, for some it’s becoming wealthy, free from addictions, a healthy relationship, or realization of a lifelong dream. Whatever your definition of success, taking that first step can be the hardest one to take on your journey. One of my favorite former bosses at our sales meetings used to say, “By the inch it’s a cinch, by the yard it’s hard”.

Try taking small steps (a leap of faith) towards your goal and as you succeed at each small step, you will gain confidence that the finish line is reachable.

If you haven’t already, I pray all of you will take that first step to whatever success goal you are dreaming about.

Blessings to all of you!
